Week 2 review

Navy v Army: Final 14-7

Player of the game – Sr LB Troy Monroe 12tackles 3TFL 2Sacks 1pbu

Always one of the biggest games of the year this meeting between the two CSFL powers did not disappoint. This meeting was won by Navy who boasts maybe the best defense in the league. Their stars came to ball especially their leaders Sr DL/LB Troy Monroe and Jr DB Grant Hooper. Monroe dominated  finishing with 12 tackles 3TFL 2sacks 1pbu.  Hooper finished with 2tackles 1int 1pbu. He also only allowed 1 catch on 4 targets which is only a 25% completion percentage on his side. Navy also welcomed back Sr RB Caleb Champion who missed last weeks game. The combination of Champion and Jr QB Braydan Chmiel only gained 40 yards but it was enough to help Navy dominate in time of possession(31:15-22:58).  Army was led by Jr QB Ryan Sullivan who threw for 219 yards 1TD 3int.  Jr RB Matthew Sauter got the start in this game and led Army in rushing with 56 yards and added 59 receiving yards. Army was led by Soph LB David Dickerson who finished with 8 tackles 1TFL. Army will need more of out of Jr DL Navonte Dean who has made some plays for his teammates but hasn’t made much of an impact in the first two games. Army is on the road as they take on Cornell next week while Navy stays on the road to take on Chestnut Hill.

Penn v Cornell: Final 61-7

Player of the game- Sr QB Eddie Jenkins 221 yards 4 TD 34 yards 3 TD

Penn bounced back from their loss against Army and completely dominated their Ivy League rival Cornell. Penn was once again led by star QB Eddie Jenkins who was responsible for 7TDs in the game. He also went 11 for 12 on passes, which is also a testament to the Penn receivers and their ability to catch the ball.  Penn’s other stud Soph RB Laquan McKever rushed for 149 yards 1TD and added 2rec for 19 yards. McKever made many Cornell defenders look absolutely foolish during the game. He cuts on a dime and the Cornell defenders couldn’t seem to tackle him in the open field. I would be embarrassed if someone made me miss the way McKever made some of those Cornell defenders miss. Jenkins and McKever dominated but they couldn’t have done anything without their OLIne. Led by Sr Matt McDermott and Sr Matthew Herman the Penn OLine maybe be the best in the league.  On defense Penn was led by star LB Aaron Johnson who is by far Penn’s best defense player. Johnson finished with 9tackles 3TFL and 1 FF. He has been the crown jewel on defense, it’s clear he’s taken his game to another level this season. Sr Will Griffen who is Cornell’s only real star couldn’t do much this game. He didn’t get any help from  from the rest of his team this game. He finished with 17 yards on the ground and 1 rec for 9 yards. The star ATH even got some time at QB because of the lack of production form the offense. On defense there were stats accumulated but no one stood out, a lot of stats for guys were gained during garbage time. Penn takes on Post in Connecticut while Cornell welcomes Army.

Aldeson Broddus v Post : Final 21-2

Player of the game- Fr RB Max Crist 39 yards 3red 41 yards 1 TD

It didn’t take long for AB to get their first win as a program. The young team defeated Post 26-2 in their second home game of the season. Fr QB Joshua Derocher and Fr Timmy Tillman combined for perfect completion percentage ( 9 for 9) 106 yards and 1 TD. Fr RB Max Crist did his thing on the ground and in the air finishing with 80 all purpose yards and 1 TD. On defense there was no one individual standout but as a team they were dominate holding Post to less than 100 passing yards and 100 rushing yards. Post did what they could but couldn’t mange much against the young team. Sr WR Robert Sherry III led the team with 5 rec 33 yards. Sophmores Daniel Benjamin and Jaylen Rivera did what they could on defense finishing with 15 tackles 3TFL 1sack between the 2 of them. But on both sides of the ball Post had no answer for the young AB squad. AB takes on Caldwell at home while Post returns home to take on Penn

STAC v Caldwell: Final 26-0

Player of the game- Soph RB Armani Bermudez 118 yards 1 TD

Despite the controversy surrounding last weeks game Caldwell managed to rally a beat STAC 26-0. The cougars were at a disadvantage early being forced to play without starting QB Tajae Irby but they didn’t let that stop them..  Jr QB Steven Yost and Fr QB Timothy Palmer got the job done combining for 93 yards and 2TD with a 81% competition percentage. Soph RB Armani Bermudez dominated once again. He has been the work horse for CU in their first 2 games. He finished with 118 yards 1TD. On the defensive side of the ball it was a team effort for CU. They held STAC down offensively only allowing 87 passing yards and -38 rushing yards as a team. Soph DB Haleem Woods did lead the charge however finishing with 5 solo stops and 1TFL.  The STAC offense left much to be desired in this game. Soph QB Keil McKenzie couldn’t get things going. McKenzie getting hurt didn’t help the STAC offensive effort either. Soph  QB Benny Storms was forced into the game but only threw for 43 yards and 1int.  The run game for STAC was non existent which added to their offensive woes. Defensively Fr DB Maxwell Johnson led the charge finishing with 12 tackles. Caldwell hits the road again to take on AB while STAC goes journeys to PA to take on Mansfield

Chestnut Hill v Mansfield: Final 25-22

Player of the game- Sr WR Domoree Hill 6rec 95 yards 2 TD

This tightly contest game went down to the wire with CHC managing to come out with the win. Sr QB Mike Marino held it down finishing with 254 yards 3TD 1int.  Sr WR Domoree Hill dominated finishing with 6rec 95 yards 2TD. He set the pace while young receivers Jr Akeem Browne and Fr James Naylor made big plays when they had to, combining for 8rec 135 yards 1TD between the two of them. Sr RB Sef Penson was the go-to guy in the backfield receiving a bulk of the carries. He finished with 97 yards. On defense for the griffins the tone was set by Soph DB/LB Ryan Jakeman once again. The young star finished with 9 tackles 2.5TFL 1.5sacks. The Griffins DB core as a group played exceptionally well only allowing 10 completions for the entire game. Jr DB Nate Moser sealed the game with a INT late in the 4th. For Mansfield the game was well within their grasp. Jr RB David Butler had not only the best game of his career but one of the best games in Mansfield history finishing with 253 yards 1rec 12 yards 1TD. He bullied the Chestnut Hill defense for the entire game. Fr QB Koby Peacock threw for 150 yards 3TD 2int, he also added 47 yards on the ground. The young QB shows promise but he hasn’t put it all together yet.  Sr WR DJ Mclean finished with 3 rec 94 yards 1TD. The bulk of his 94 yards came from one catch of 60 yards. On defense the Mounties were led by Fr LB Matt Roberts who finished with a game high 11 tackles with 1.5TFL 1pbu. Fr DB Terrance Quaker caught the lone int for MU also adding 2 tackles. CHC comes back home for a match up vs Navy while Mansfield stays home to play STAC.
