Week 3 breakdown

Navy v CHC: Final 28-12

Player of the game- Sr LB David Postma 14tackles 2TFL 1sack 1int

This battle of unbeatens lived up to expectations. Great defensive plays with a sprinkle of magic for both offenses made for a great game. CHC was led by star WR Sr Domoree Hill who finished with 7rec 118yards 1TD. Hill now has 22 career TD’s , he needs 5 more to tie all-time great Penn WR Whit Shaw for the most in league history(27). Sr RB Sef Penson was the bell cow once again leading the griffins in rushing with 92yards 1TD. On defense the Griffins had guys show up on all three levels. Jr DB Rahsul Brown played big coming up with a big int and 2 pbu , Soph LB Ryan Jakeman finished with 8 solo stops, and Sr DL Marcell Mitchell had his best game of the season finishing with 8 tackles. For Navy everything stops and starts with Jr QB Braydan Chmiel. The star QB had his best passing game of the season finishing with 124yards 2TD, but he also dominated on the ground finishing with 109 1TD. There were multiple plays were he just made something happen. Chmiel makes magic happen in what feels like every game, its always a treat to watch him play. Defensively Navy was led by Sr LB David Postma who made his presence felt all over the field. He finished with 14 tackles 2TFL 1sack 1int.  Jr LB Sammie Adams really impressed during the game. Looks like he’ll be a staple on Navy’s defense for the rest of this season as well as the next. He finished with9 tackles 1TFL.  Navy heads to Jersey to take on Caldwell while CHC gears up for a matchup with same city rival Penn.

Penn v Post: Final 57-7

Player of the game- Sr QB Eddie Jenkins 136 yards 1 TD 72% 72yards 3TD

Post home opener didn’t go as planned to say the least. Soph QB Nick D’elia continues to show flashes but he can’t do it by himself. The young QB finished with 107 yards 1int. Sr WR Robert Sherry III continues to be the top target finishing with 5rec 39yards. Defensively Jr DL Hansley Dalembert did what he could finishing with 10 tackles 2.5TFL. For Penn the tone was set by their usual suspects. Sr QB Eddie Jenkins accounted for 4 TD’s( 1 pass 3rush). His 136yards passing and 72 yards running kept the Post defense on their heels. Soph RB Laquan McKever continues to impress finishing with 82yards 2TD. His shiftiness has been a problem for opposing defenses all season. Soph TE Ben Klaus had the best game of his career catching 5 passes for 105yards 1TD. Klaus is one of the few good tight ends in the league, he’ll be a top target for Jenkins throughout the season. On the defensive side of the ball it was a dominate team effort for the Quakers. Fr LB Lewis Evans continues to exceed expectations leading the team in tackles with 6. Penn gears up for a Philly showdown against CHC while Post travels to West Point to take on Army.

Army v Cornell:Final 49-0

Player of the game- Justin Charette 5rec 54 yards 1TD

Cornell welcomed Army to Ithaca but couldn’t get the job done. The woes on both sides of the ball continue to plague Cornell. Sr RB Will Griffen was the teams starting QB however this move didn’t do much for the offense. Griffen continues to compete but he can’t do anything by himself. Defensively Sr DB Peter Sanchez led the team in tackles with 12 two of those being TFL. For army it was a team effort on both sides of the ball. Jr QB Ryan Sullivan threw for 99yars 2TD. Jr WR Justin Charette led the squad with 5rec 54 yards 1 TD. The army rushing attack was multiple headed monster this week with 5 guys finishing with 40 yards or more. On the defensive side of the ball Army did what they had to do. There was no one guy who stood out because the Cornell offense couldn’t put enough pressure on the Army defense to force their star players to elevate their level of play. Army played a good defensive game across the board. Cornell goes around the corner to play STAC in Sparkill NY while Army welcomes Post.

Mansfield v STAC: Final 31-6

Player of the game- Jr RB David Butler 112 yards 2rec 15yards

STAC continues to struggle in their second season. Despite the issues there is talent that flashes but they need some work. Soph QB Keil McKenzie threw for 103 yards. Fr WR Mahki Matthews had his biggest game so far this season hauling in 5 receptions for 42yards. Fr LB Maxwell Johnson continues to lead this young STAC defense. He finished with 8tackles 1TFL 1sack. He’s been a constant on this defense and his efforts aren’t going unnoticed. For Mansfield it looks like their starting to get comfortable. Fr Koby Peacock continues the up a down roller coaster of his freshmen QB campaign. He finished with 170 yards 2TD 2int 19yards 1TD. Jr RB David Butler had another big day rushing for 112 yards while adding 2rec for 15 yards. Butler in 3 games has almost as many yards as he had for his entire career. Butler continues to prove himself as one of the top backs in the league. Fr DB Terrance Quaker had a big impact on special teams and defense. Quaker took a 70-yard KR to the crib for his first score on the season. Quaker also led a secondary that only allowed 10 completions. Fr LB Matt Roberts continues to lead the MU defense, he finished with 12 tackles 1TFL. Roberts leads MU in tackles with 33 through the first three weeks.  MU welcomes AB to northern PA while STAC takes on in state rival Cornell.

Caldwell v AB: Final 43-0

Player of the game- Soph Armani Bermudez 114yards 2TD

AB continues their inaugural season but despite early success they couldn’t get the job done this weekend. The young team has fire power but couldn’t get their play makers involved. Fr QB’s Timmy Tillman and Joshua Derocher combined for 71yards 0TD. As a team AB ended up with negative rushing yardage. Despite the score the defense didn’t perform terribly but they couldn’t stop the big plays. Sr LB Sam Solomon led the team with 9 tackles 1.5 TFL. Fr DB Ty’Sean Tyler continues to impress me. He’s playing very well for a young DB and I haven’t seen him have a bad game yet. He’s had some young guy mistakes but not terrible play. For CU the day started with a bang when Jr ATH Nysir Smith took a 85 yard KR to the house. Smith was also the leading receiver on the day finishing with 2rec 71 yards 1TD. CU was without Soph QB Tajae Irby yet again but that did nothing to slow down their offense. Fr QB Timothy Palmer finished with 138yards 2TD 29yards rushing. The running game has been the best its been for CU since their introduction into the league. Soph Armani Burmudez had another big day finishing with 114yards 2TD. Jr ATH Carl Watson who has been held in check for so far this season had his best game of the year finishing with 69yards 1TD 2rec 9yards. If CU can get his production to match Burmudez then they could have a scary 1-2 punch. On defense its was a total team effort from Caldwell. Fr LB Joseph Mongelli led the team with 7tackles 2.5TFL. Including Mongelli CU had 6 players with at least 4 tackles and 6 players got in on 5 sacks. AB gets ready for their first road game against Mansfield while Caldwell heads home to take on Navy.
