Week 4 review

Week 4 review

Penn v CHC: 42-32

Player of the game- Soph Laquan Mckever 238yards 2TD 1rec 21yards

This battle of Philly rivals did not disappoint. CHC Sr QB Mike Marino had a day finishing with 336 yards 5TD 2int 59%. The offensive line for the griffins created clean pockets for Marino even after starting tackle Jr Teddy Tabasco left the game due to a leg injury. Jr TE Akeem Browne had the biggest game of his career so far finishing with 8rec 104yards 2TD. Sr WR Domoree Hill wasn’t to far behind him finishing with 5rec 93 yards 1TD.  The two stars dominated their individual matchups and will be favored heavily in the griffins last three games. Young WR Coldy Goldsmith also finished with a career high 6rec for 60 yards and Fr ATH James Naylor Jr added 4rec 65yards and 2TD. Naylor continues to impress in his freshmen campaign and looks to be a dominate player for years to come.  The Griffins were led on the defensive side of the ball by Jr DB Rahsul Brown who finished with 8tackles, all solo stops. The DB tandem of Jr Nate Moser and Jr Terrell Bush did what they always do and that’s lockdown the outside. They only allowed 1catch between the two of them. For Penn the unquestioned star of the day was Soph RB Laquan Mckever who finished with a career high 238 yards 2TD 1rec 21 yards. His footwork in traffic is impeccable, its always exciting to watch him tote the rock. Sr QB Eddie Jenkins continues to strengthen his MVP resume finishing with 117yards 2TD 71% 85 rushing yards 2TD. Much like the griffin’s line the guys up front for the Quakers gave Jenkins clean pockets for the entire day. Soph Brendan McCaffrey has impressed me as of late, he finished with 7rec 47yards 2TD. The sophomore pass catcher has started to get comfortable working in the slot. He isn’t a dominate outside receiver yet but his work in the slot is top notch. On defense Penn was led by star LB Aaron Johnson who finished with 9 solo stops. His running mate Fr LB Lewis Evans added 8 tackles of his own. Lewis and Johnson may very well be the best backer duo in the league, I look forward to watching those two finish out the season strong. CHC heads down to WV to take on Alderson Broaddus after the bye and Penn gears up for a showdown with Navy.

STAC v Cornell: Final 39 -19

Player of the game- Soph QB Kiel McKenzie 251yards 3TD 1int 57%

In this battle of New York rivals, the young STAC team came out on top. For Cornell this season has gone downhill since week 1. Jr QB Aneesh Agrawal didn’t play and star ATH Will Griffen was also out. Without Griffen the Cornell offense is a shell of itself. Soph Harrison Nicholas, who is listed as a DB, got the start at QB. He threw for a pedestrian 62 yards 1TD 5int 31%. Jr RB J.R Quinones finished with 92 yards 1TD, but he continues to fumble on a regular basis. Without Griffen there isn’t much the Cornell offense is going to do to challenge most teams. On defense Cornell was led by Sr LB Collin Stockton who finished with 9 tackles 1PBU. Soph LB Matt Peck help Cornell stay in the game with 7tackles 1TFL 1int. For STAC every game starts and stops with Soph QB Kiel Mckenzie. The young QB finished with a career high 251 yards 3TD 1int 57%. This is the best game the young QB has had in his short career, it should be a good building block for him and his team as they look to finish out the season strong. Jr WR Jimmy English had a season high 7rec for 75yards 1TD and Fr WR Ernest Stallworth continues to impress finishing with 4rec 83yards 2TD. Soph DE Tyreke Smith led the team with 10tackles .5 TFL. Fr Ernest Stallworth, Sr Malyk Michel, Fr Coleby Cherrington, Jr Vincent Berretto, and Soph Daniel Grossman all recorded an interception. Cornell takes on Mansfield after the bye while STAC travels to play Post.

Mansifield v Alderson Brodduas: 42-18

Player of the game- Soph DL Chase Moser 7tackles 5TFL 2sacks

AB hit the road for the first time in program history, but an experienced Mansfield team got the job done.  Fr QB Joshua Derocher threw for 107 yards 1TD 1int 50%. The young QB had a solid performance but there wasn’t much he could do to turn the tide for his team since there was pressure in his face for the entire game. The AB OLine gave up 6 sacks and numerous QB pressures.  That’s what you’re going to get with a young OLine especially when going up against a front seven with some experience. This should be a building block game for the AB OLine, they’ll be better in the long run because of this. Fr RB Tyler Smith led AB with 80 yards on the ground. Fr WR Teddy Tyler led the team in receiving with 2rec 79 yards 1TD. The AB defense had some bright spots as well. Sr DL Sam Solomon had a day finishing with 6 solo stops 2TFL 1 sack 1FF. In the secondary Fr DB Ty’Sean Tyler continues to impress. He finished with 6 tackles 1int. He played big against an impressive MU receiver core, it’s not easy for a young DB going up against Sr DJ Mclean and Fr WR John Rogers. The secondary for AB only allowed 12 completions on 29 attempts. AB continues to get better week by week, I’m looking forward to watching their young stars continued development.  For MU the passing attack was pedestrian to say the least. Fr Koby Peacock continues his rollercoaster first season finishing this game with 64yards 1TD 2int 45%. Jr RB David Butler continues his assault on the MU record books finishing with another strong performance, 105yards 2TD 1rec 13yards 1TD.  That brings his career totals to 964 yards with 10 TDs. He is now first all time in rushing yards in MU history and 2nd all time in rushing TDs. The big RB will likely finish his career as the best RB in MU history. On defense Fr LB Matt Roberts once again led the team in tackles with 10 adding 1TFL 1int, Roberts has a good nose for the ball especially on runs up the middle. Soph DL Chase Moser had his most impressive game of the season. He really took advantage of the youth upfront for AB finishing with 7tackles 5TFL 2sacks. MU heads up to Ithaca after the bye while AB heads back home to take on CHC

Army v Post: 58-7

Player of the game- Jr DL Navonte Dean 6tackles 2TFL 1sack

This matchup between the 2 north division teams was decided early on. Post offense couldn’t muster up much against the veteran Army defense. Soph Nick D’Eila only threw for 54 yards 1TD 2int. The Post receivers didn’t do much to help the situation by not getting open. The rushing attack was also almost nonexistent with Post finishing with 4 positive rushing yards as a team. Defensively Jr DL Hansley Dalembert led the team in tackles finishing with 9 and adding 2.5TFL. Star Soph Safety Jaylen Rivera added 8 tackles along with Jr LB “Ace” Francette, Jr LB Tyler Mitza, and Soph DL Daniel Benjamin. The Army offense did what it does now with Ryan Sullivan at the helm and that’s throw screens. Jr QB Ryan Sullivan finished with 114yards 1TD 50%.  Rushing wise there were 7 guys who ran the ball for Army, together they finished with 136yards 5TDs. Defensively for Army it was and overwhelming team effort. The Army D only allowed 5 first downs all game. Fr LB Caleb Doyle led the team with 12tackles 2TFL. Jr DL  Navonte Dean played one of his best games of the season finishing with 6tackles 2TFL 1sack. Im really high on Dean but it was easy to see he needed to get comfortable with the transition from DT to DE. Its good to see that he’s finally starting to pop. Sr DB Desmond Young locked down every Post WR he lined up across from. Army overwhelmed Post on both sides of the ball.  Army gets ready to take on Caldwell while Post gears up for STAC.

Navy v Caldwell: 23-10

Player of the game- Sr RB Caleb Champion 95yards 1TD 2rec 9yards

Caldwell gave Navy everything that they had but the shipmen pulled it out at the end. The passing game for Caldwell couldn’t get going at all. Fr Timothy Palmer and Jr Steven Yost combined for 41yards 2int. Soph RB Armani Burmudez was the cougars best offensive threat, he finished with 80 yards 1TD. Burmudez continues to drive the CU offense and has solidified himself as one of the best running backs in the league. Defensively Jr LB Royce Francisco set the tone for the backers finishing with 12 tackles. You can really see the development with his game now that he is in his 3rd year of starting. The duo of DL Randy Antenor and DL Colin Williams played their best game together to date. The two stud D-Linemen combined for 16tackles 4TFL 2sacks 1FR. With a performance like that against the defending champs the two cougars have put themselves into the best D-Line duo conversation. The CU secondary held it down only allowing 7 competitions. Navy is the best passing offense but regardless they put on a great performance. For Navy the hero was undoubtedly Sr RB Caleb Champion who has been struggling with an injury that has forced him to miss 2 games this season. That injury didn’t seem to slow him down this game however as he finished with 95yards 1TD 2rec 9 yards. Champion’s health will be huge for Navy as they try to capture another league title. The Navy passing game couldn’t get rolling at all. Jr QB Braydan Chmiel and Jr QB Jake Foss went 6 for 18 with 41 yards and 2int. Both QB’s will have to play better down the stretch if Navy hopes to repeat. On the defensive side of the ball Sr LB David Postma played big once again, he finished with 8 tackles .5TFL. The star LB has really come into his own as the leader in the middle for that defense. Caldwell travels up to Army after the bye while Navy takes on Penn.
