Week 6 review

Navy v Penn:Final 16-7

Player of the game- Sr RB Caleb Champion 65 yards 34 passing yards 1TD

This Southern division game proved to be one of the best games of the season. Sr QB Eddie Jenkins didn’t have his best game, but he did keep Penn in striking distance.  The star QB finished with 116yards 2int 68% 39rushing yards. Soph RB Laquan McKever scored the lone touchdown for Penn, he finished with 65yards 1TD. The top tier back ran hard all night forcing the Navy defense to bring multiple defenders to tackle him. Soph WR Brendan McCaffrey continues to be a menace out of the slot. He hauled in 6 passes for 80 yards. The young WR continues to impress when his number is called. He looks like the best slot receiver in the league right now. On defense for Penn Fr DL Caleb Pierce led the way with a career day. He finished with a career high 11tackles 2.5TFL. the LB duo of Fr Lewis Evans and Jr Aaron Johnson continue to harass opposing offenses. The two-star LB’s combined for 19tackles 1.5TFL. The defense for did a good job only allowing 1 offensive touchdown. The Navy offense couldn’t do much against the Penn defense but they did enough to consistently put themselves in FG range. Jr QB Braydan Chmiel finished with 67 yards 57% 73rushing yards. The star of the day for the Navy offense was Sr RB Caleb Champion. The stud RB finished with 65 rushing yards. Champion threw the only offensive touchdown of the day , a 34 yards pass to Sr WR JT Thompson. Champion when healthy is a top 2 back and the best offensive player Navy has. I hope he continues to stay healthy for the rest of the season, it is a joy to watch him play. Defensively navy was once again led by Sr LB David Postma who finished with 10tackles 1TFL 1sack 1FF. As a unit the defensive line for Navy had a field day. The group combined for 20tackles 3.5TFL 3sacks. Penn welcomes Alderson Broaddus to Franklin Field while Navy heads to NY to play Cornell.

Chestnut Hill v AB: Final 26-17

Player of the game- Sr RB Sef Penson 132 yards 2TD

This game was tight all the way to the finish. AB’s young QBs Joshua Derocher and Timmy Tillman combined for 168 yards 2TD 2int 48%. AB couldn’t get much going on the ground finishing with 39 yards as a team. While the young OLine couldn’t get any movement up front they did a decent job protect their QBs only allowing 1sack. Fr DL Nathaniel Williams had a career day finishing with 11 tackles 1.5TFL .5sack. Fr Hosea Addison and Sr Sam Solomon combined for 14tackles 3.5TFL .5sack. The young AB squad kept themselves in the game until the very end. This team continues to compete no matter the opponent. AB is the best first year team that I’ve seen. CHC broke their two-game losing streak with this win over AB. Sr QB Mike Marino finished with 158 yards 2TD 53%. The Sr QB continues to cement himself in the CSFL record books.  The offensive star of the day was Sr RB Sef Penson who dominated in a career day. The Sr RB finished with 132yards 2TD. The OLine for CHC did a great job as well, opening lanes for Penson and the other CHC backs. Jr TE Akeem Browne led the Griffins with 5rec 85yards 1TD. The big TE proved to be a matchup problem for the young AB defense. Defensively CHC was led by Sr LB Mike McLhenney who led the team with 8tackles. Jr DB Rashul Brown held it down saving a big TD in the back of the endzone. He also finished with 3solo stops and 1int.  CHC heads back home for their senior night against Caldwell while AB heads to Philly to take on Penn.

Army v Caldwell: Final 38-6

Player of the game- Soph QB JC Watson 121 yards 2TD 50%

The final score isn’t indicative of how competitive this game actually was, but regardless Army took the W. Caldwell Fr QB Timothy Palmer didn’t have his best day finishing with139yards 1TD 3int 32% 46rushing yards. The completion percentage doesn’t tell the whole story here. The CU receiving core dropped a lot of catchable passes. The CU rushing attack did pretty well , they finished with 128yards as a team. Fr WR Frank Demaio led the team with 4rec 48yards. On the defensive side of the ball Fr LB Jahmall Readus led the team with a career high 9tackles .5TFL. The CU secondary couldn’t seem to get the hang of that passing attack that Army runs which resulted in some big plays. For Army the day goes to Soph QB JC Watson. He essentially saved the day for Army. Watson finished with 121 yards 2TD 50%. Watson also had a decent amount of rushing yards but he lost most of them on sacks on TFL on options, but despite the total you can see that Watson can really move. Sr WR Tom Williamson had his best game of the season finishing with9rec 112yards 1TD. On the defensive side of the ball Jr DB Ryan Leach was a star. He had 8tackles .5TFL 2int. The star safety makes plays every week, he very well may be the best player on that defense. He’s a first team guy for me right now for sure. Army heads to NY to take on STAC while Caldwell heads to Philly to play CHC.

Mansfield v Cornell: Final 44-13

Player of the game- Jr RB David Butler 172 yards 3TD

This was a one-sided affair from the jump, Cornell just can’t matchup with most teams. Jr QB Aneesh Agrawal made his return and threw for 195yards 1TD 1int 47%. That’s pretty good considering how may passes the Cornell receivers dropped. You must help your QB out. Everyone’s going to have a drop or two and yes very rarely do you see a perfect game from a WR group, but this was especially bad. Fr WR Luke Verzella  came out of nowhere in this game, he dropped a few passes himself but right now he is by far the best offensive talent they have on their team. Cornell needs to feature Verzella if they hope to be competitive these last few games. Defensively Soph LB Matt Peck looked good finishing with 6 tackles .5TFL. Outside of that there wasn’t anything the Cornell defense could do to stop the MU offense. For MU the passing attack was just good enough to keep the train rolling. Fr QB Koby Peacock threw for 82 yards 61% 50 yards 1TD.  He didn’t throw a TD, but this is also the first game he didn’t throw a pick. He played it very safe and that’s all MU needed from him. The usual star came out to play and that star is David Butler. The Jr RB finished with 172yards 3TD. The star RB is now the all time leader in rushing yards and touchdowns at MU. He will continue to add on to his totals for the rest of the season. The MU defense was led by Fr LB Matt Roberts. The stud LB continues to make a case for newcomer of the year finishing this game with 9tackles 3.5TFL 1sack. The Soph DL Chase Moser led the way up front finishing with 5 solo stops 2TFL 1sack. As a group the MU DL didn’t give an inch holding the Cornell offense to -8 rushing yards. Cornell gets ready to take on Navy while MU gets ready for a northern division match up against Post.

STAC v Post: Final 13-9

Player of the game – Soph QB Kiel Mckenzie 232yards 1TD 2int 61%

This game could’ve gone either way but STAC came out with the W. Soph QB Nick D’Elia had one of his better games yardage wise for Post. He finished with 129 yards 1int 60%. Rushing the ball continues to be a problem for Post. Fr RB Jake Butler led the team with 22 yards 1TD. Butler was also the leading receiver for Post finishing with 3rec 40yards.  The star of the day for Post was Jr DL Hansley Dalembert. The star linemen finished with 12 tackles 9TFL. To the best of my knowledge 9TFL is a league record for most TFL in a game! Dalembert wasn’t the only player to cause some havoc as 5 defenders for Post had at least 2TFL. For STAC Soph QB Kiel Mckenzie led the team. The young QB finished with 232 yards 1TD 2int 61% 1rush TD. Fr WR Mahki Matthews and Ernest Stallworth played their best game as a duo combining for 7rec 147yards 1TD. The young duo could turn into a dangerous pair if they continue to develop. Defensively Fr DB Sheriffh Bittaye led the team with 7tackles. Soph Carlos Fernadez who usually totes the rock as a RB, was on the dark side this game and added 6tackles 1int.  STAC gets ready for NY rival Army while Post gets ready for Mansfield.
