Week 7 review

Navy v Cornell: Final 70-7

player of the game-THE WHOLE TEAM!

To get straight to the point there isn’t much to talk about on the Cornell side of things. Jr QB Aneesh Agrawal only threw for 90 yards 33% with 6int. Fr RB Jacob Wynkoop led the team in rushing yards with 47 yards. The lone TD was scored by Jr QB Aneesh Agrawal from 2yards out late in the game. Defensively Cornell was even worse giving up 70 points to Navy which is the most points a team has allowed this season. To add on to that, this 2019 Navy team is not an offensive juggernaut. Before this game Navy was only averaging 25.8 points per game. Then to add on to that, the Cornell defense was absolutely embarrassed by Fr RB Terry Totta as he demolished almost every Cornell defensive starter as he made his way into the end zone. The play was so spectacular it made it on ESPN’s top 10! Cornell just doesn’t have the guys to compete this. They will have to hit the recruiting trail hard to get some more talent on the team. For Navy this game was gloried practice. Navy had 10 rushing touchdowns between 6 ball carriers, Jr QB Braydan Chmiel led the way yardage wise with 95yards.  No receiver for Navy really made an impact but in this game,  it wasn’t necessary, why throw the ball when you can run it 38 times and get 8 yards a pop. Since Cornell didn’t have the ball for very long the Navy defense didn’t have a lot of chances to get tackles. The 6 interceptions by Navy also kept the Cornell offense off the field. Cornell will look to restore their pride against Post while Navy ends the regular season with AB.

Caldwell v CHC: Final 28-11

Player of the game – Sr WR Domoree Hill 5 rec 102 1TD

This matchup of southern division teams has gotten more intense each year, this meeting between the two teams was the most competitive yet. The Caldwell passing attack struggled to make plays against a talented CHC secondary. Jr QB Steven Yost and Fr QB Timothy Palmer combined for 94 yards 0TD 2int 25%. Star Soph RB Armani Burmudez finished with 101 yards 1TD, this was his 3rd 100 yard game of the season. The way Burmudez stops and starts is ridiculous, there aren’t many backs who can accelerate like he can. On the defensive side of the ball Jr LB Royce Francisco held it down in the middle. Fracisco finished with 8 tackles 1.5TFL. Sr DB Adam Robbs and Fr Steven Rose combined for 3 picks which helped slow down the CHC offense for a while. Jr DL Randy Antenor only finished with 4 tackles but managed to cause disruption for the CHC offense. Chestnut Hill had more of the usual from their top players. Sr QB Mike Marino threw for 241 yards 2TD 3int 50%. The CHC OLine did a good job giving Marino time to get the ball to the play makers CHC has on the outside. Sr WR Domoree Hill finished with 5rec 102 yards 1TD. The elite receiver made big plays throughout the game that gave CHC the edge. Soph WR Colby Goldsmith had the biggest game of his young career finishing with 4rec 88yards 1TD. Soph LB Ryan Jakeman has made his presence felt since game 1 and this game was no different. The young LB finished with a career high 14 tackles, he also added 1TFL and a FF. The DB duo of Jr Terrell Bush and Nate Moser had maybe their best game as a pair. The two corners were targeted 11 times but gave up 0 competitions and Bush added 1 int.  CHC heads up to NY to take on STAC while Caldwell finishes the season at home v Penn.

Army v STAC: Final 34-7

Player of the game- Jr DL Navonte Dean 6 tackles 3.5TFL 3.5sacks 1int

Army took control of this one early and didn’t look back. Sr QB Ryan Sullivan threw for 124 yards 2TD 1int 75%. There were finally some throws from Sullivan that make you optimistic that he can become a good QB, but the usual screen game gave him the bulk of his yards on the day. Fr RB Kameron Miller led the team with 53 yards on the ground and Soph WR Kraig Hamilton led the team in receiving with 66 yards. The game was ultimately won by Army’s strong defense. Star DL Navonte Dean who finished with 6tackles 3.5TFL 3.5sacks. Dean has really come into his own as an edge player since his transition from DT to DE. Jr DB Ryan Leach continues to terrorize opposing QB’s, he didn’t record any tackles but grab 1 int. Leach rarely lets anything get behind him, the way he tracks the ball when its in the air and contests opposing receivers is elite. He’s the best safety I’ve seen at Army in a few years. For STAC the struggles started from the jump. Soph QB Kiel McKenzie had a rough day only throwing for 47 yards 0TD 3int 36%. Running the ball didn’t go much better for STAC as they ran for -9 yards as a team. Fr WR Ernest Stallworth was the lone offensive star of the day for STAC finishing with 2rec 82 yards 1TD. On defense for STAC Fr LB Sheriff Bittaye led the team in tackles once again finishing with 9 tackles 3.5TFL 2.5sacks. The young LB has been balling in every game this season no matter the outcome. Army gets ready for a Northern division showdown against Mansfield and STAC welcomes CHC to NY.

Penn v AB: Final 49-7

Player of the game- Sr QB Eddie Jenkins 263 yards 3TD 1int 66% 106yards 4TD

This game had more attention surrounding it then a normal Penn home game at Franklin field. This game will forever be remember as Wags last home game as the head coach for Penn. Penn took a big lead early and didn’t let up. The young QBs for AB had a hard time making plays. Fr QB Joushua Derocher & Timmy Tillman only combined for 38yards  0TD 1int 40%. Part of their struggles stemmed from a lack of protection, the young AB OLine struggled against the Penn defensive front. Fr RB Jerrid Runions had the biggest play of the day for AB, his 37 yard run was the lone TD of the day for the young team. Defensively the guys who stood out were Sr DL Sam Solomon and Fr DL Hosea Addison. The two ends combined for 14 tackles 3.5TFL. The pair has held it down all season, Solomon will look to end his career with a bang in the final game of the season while Addison will look to end his freshman campaign on a high note while he builds for the future. For Penn the star of the day was none other than Sr QB Eddie Jenkins who finished with 263 yards 3TD 1int 66% 106yards 4TD. This is the second time this season Jenkins was responsible for 7 touchdowns. The star QB continues to cement his legacy as one of the best QBs the CSFL has ever seen. Soph WR Brendan McCaffrey finished with 5rec and a career high 116yards and 1TD. McCaffrey has proven himself to be the best slot receiver in the league. The young WR should be a problem for years to come. On the defensive side of the ball it was very much a team effort for Penn.  A lot of guys got to play because it was senior day and because the score got so out of hand so quickly. Sr LB Matteo Murgia and Jr LB Aaron Johnson combined for 9tackes 4TFL 2sacks.  Matteo will end his career as one of the most consistent backers to ever play at Penn. Penn travels next week to take on Caldwell while AB travels to take on Navy.

Mansfield v Post: Final 28-6

Player of the game- Jr RB David Butler 138 yards 1TD

This northern division match up started out close, but Mansfield took a commanding lead in the 2nd and didn’t look back. Soph QB Nick D’Elia threw for 144 yards 1TD 2int 36%. D’Elia has had to run for his life all season and today was no different as he was sacked a season high 5 times.  The rushing attack was nonexistent for Post, they ran for -39 yards as a team.  Sr WR Robert Sherry III led the team in receiving with 5rec 77yards 1TD. Fr WR Norell Jackson wasn’t to far behind finishing with a career high 6rec 66yards. The Post defense has had to rely on their stars all season, these guys played big in their individual matchups despite the final score. Jr DL Hansley Dalembert and Jr LB Ace Francette combined for 24 tackles 11.5TFL 5sacks 1FF. Soph DB Jaylen Rivera added 5 tackles 1TFL. These three have been bright spots in what has been a less than stellar season. For MU the passing attack just barely did enough. Fr QB Koby Peacock continues his roller coaster season. The Fr QB finished with 103 yards 1TD 2int 39%.  His numbers have been up and down all season but the OLine has to take some flack for this game, they allowed Peacock to get sacked 6 times.  Now the same OLine did a great job opening up rushing lanes for star RB David Butler. The Jr finished with 138 yards 2TD. This was Buter’s 5th consecutive game with 100+ rushing yards.  Sr WR DJ McLean finished with 5rec 67yards 1TD. The big WR is now the all-time leader in receptions in MU history. Mclean will go down as one of the better WR to ever play in the CSFL. Fr LB Matt Roberts had another double-digit tackle game. This time it was 10tackles with 4TFL and 1sack. The young LB has been a stud in the middle since game 1. He should be the front runner to be named the newcomer of the year.  Post gets ready to take on Cornell while MU gets ready for a match up with Army.
