Week 8 review

CHC v STAC: Final 32-19

Player of the game- Terrell Bush 4tackles 10% when thrown at, 82 KR yards 1 TD

CHC came out early and took the big lead, the griffins never let up despite some scores from STAC. Soph QB Kiel McKenzie finished the game with 218 yards 2TD 2int 67%. The young QB did a good job finding guys, one of his best traits is that he tends to put the ball right in his guys pocket which allows them to get more yards after the catch. Fr RB Dwayne Moore led the team in receiving finishing with 3rec 67 yards 1TD. Jr WR Jimmy English added 4rec 60 yards 1TD. Soph DL Edward Ortiz led the team with 8 tackles 1TFL 1sack, Soph SS Daniel Grossman had maybe the best game of his young career finishing with 7 tackles 3TFL 1sack 2FF.  The young team has some promise, there are some guys who can really have impact as they mature. The next step for STAC is for their best players to develop. The Griffins had bevy of players who looked to impress in their last game. Sr QB Mike Marino finished with 130 yards 2TD 3int 54%. The CHC QB finishes his career as not only the top passer in CHC history, but as one of the top passers in league history. Sr RB Sef Penson finished the game with 57yards 1TD. The RB has been a mainstay in the CHC backfield since his freshmen season, Penson finishes his career as CHC all time leading rusher. Sr WR Domoree Hill finished with 2rec 87 yards 1TD. Hill finishes his career with every major statistical record at CHC and is top 3 in every statistical category in CSFL history. On defense Soph LB Ryan Jakeman led way with 8tackles 1TFL. Jr CB Nate Moser & Terrell Bush only allowed 2 catches on 8 targets. Bush also scored on a 72yard KR which was his first TD of the season. CHC loses some all-time greats but returns the bulk of their defensive starters as they look to continue their success as a program.

Penn v CU: Final 31-21

Player of the game- Fr LB Lewis Evans 15tackles 1TFL 1FF 1 FR

This match up between southern division teams proved just how much more competitive the southern division is compared to the northern division. The CU passing game struggled like it has for most of the season. Fr QB Timothy Palmer finished with 87 yards 1TD 2int 41%. The star of the day was undoubtedly Soph RB Armani Bermudez who finished with 149yards 2TD. The stud RB has been the best offensive player all season, he has proved to me that he is a first team guy. On defense the usual CU stars showed up. Jr LB Royce Francisco finished with 9tackles 1.5TFL 1sack. Jr DL Randy Antenor, who is a finalist for my DON award,  dominated up front finishing  with 9tackles 3TFL 3sacks. The young CU team continues their upward trajectory. They have some guys who are top 5 at their positions and players who could develop into such. Returning some healthy reinvigorated players should bode well for them next season. There’s a lot to like about this team. Penn needed some big performances from their stars to pull this one off. Sr Qb Eddie Jenkins threw for 178 yards 1TD 66% and ran for 108yards 1TD. The star QB finishes his career top 10 all time in passing yards and touchdowns. He also has the record for most rushing TD  by a QB with 27 which is also the second most all time regardless of position. Soph RB Laquan McKever added 74yards 1TD.  Fr LB Lewis Evans had himself a day finishing with a career high 15tackles 1TFL 1FF 1FR. The young LB has proven he will be a star for years to come. Penn will have to replace some great guys on the field but the replacement that will have all the attention will be the coach who replaces Wags next season. The long time coach can now kick back and relax as he hands the program to a new generation.

Army v Mansfield: Final 52-7

Player of the game- Sr WR Tom Williamson 10rec 181 yards 1TD

This northern division match up started out competitive, but the wheels feel off for MU as the game went on.  Fr QB Koby Peacock didn’t impose his will on the game. He finished with 85 yards 1TD 40%. The lack of consistency from him was an issue all season. The MU OLine was overwhelmed by Army’s front 7. Jr RB David butler didn’t have anywhere to go and only finished with 27 yards. Fr WR John Rogers was the biggest offensive play maker of the day finishing with 2rec for 61yards. Sr LB Andrew Schwenk led the team on the defensive side of  ball with 12 tackles .5TFL. Soph Nick Yarnevich had his best statistical game of the season with 11 tackles 1TFL 1sack 1int. MU finished its season with the best record in program history. There are a lot of positives to take away from this season. There will be some holes they have to fill ahead of next season, but the bulk of the team will be returning. Army went into halftime with a 10-7 lead then scored 42 unanswered to take the W. Jr QB Ryan Sullivan had his biggest game of the year finishing with 412 yards 5TD 1int 70%.  Backup QB JC Watson added 106 yards through the air and 82 yards on the ground. The stars of the day were the wide receivers. Sr Tom Williamson finished with 10rec 181 yards 1TD, Jr Nitai Chun 8 rec 163yards 2TD, and Soph Kraig Hamilton 8 rec 145 yards. The screen game has proven to be deadly against teams who are ill equipped to stop it or don’t understand how to. Jr LB Tate Blessinger led the team with 7 tackles, the LB has held it down in the middle all season for Army. Jr SS Ryan Leach proves again and again that he is elite and has separated himself from the rest of the safeties in the league. Army gets its shot at the league title as they prepare to take on Navy.

Navy v AB: Final 49-0

Player of the game- Sr RB Caleb Champion 101 yards 1TD

Navy took a big lead in this southern division match up and didn’t look back.  The young QB duo for AB did not end their season on a high note. Joshua Derocher and Timmy Tillman finished combined for 67 yards 0TD 5int 26%. Fr RB Max Crist was the biggest offensive play maker of the day finishing with 2rec 55yards 9rushing yards. Sr LB AJ Arnold led the team in tackles with 11tackles. Sr DL/LB Sam Solomon finished his career with 6 tackles 1.5TFL 1sack. Malik Washington, another notable Sr, finished out his career with 5tackles and some big hits. The young team has a lot to build on. They are the best first year team that I’ve seen since I’ve been apart of the league. There’s a lot to like and they have a lot of room to grow. Navy did not disappoint their seniors on senior night. Despite the victory there is still some concerns. The Navy passing attack continues to be abysmal. Starting QB Braydan Chmiel only threw for 43 yards 0TD 0int 50%. Backup QBs Jake Foss and William Leong combined for 103 yards 2 TD 1int 60%. They must address the passing game as they get ready for next weeks game. The shining star of the day was Sr RB Caleb Champion. The stud RB finished with 101 yards 1TD. Its great to see him healthy and playing. Champion is one of the best backs I’ve ever had the pleasure of playing against and he is one of my favorite players to watch. Defensively Sr LB David Postma once again led the team in tackles with 7 adding 1TFL . Sr LB/DL Troy Monroe added 4 tackles 1.5TFL 1sack 1int. The stud edge rusher is a finalist for my Don award , he could strengthen his case with a strong performance in the title game. Navy gears up for a rematch against Army this Friday at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
