Army v Penn: 38-13 Army WIN

Player of the Game: Sr QB JC WATSON 170yards 3TD 42 RUSHING YARDS 1TD

Army kicked of their season with a win over Penn.  The game started with a long touchdown from Sr QB JC Watson to Sr WR Kraig Hamilton. That first play set the tone for the offense and was a sign of things to come. Watson would go on to score 3 more times (2passing 1 rushing) and looked great in his first official start of the CSFL season. Not to be outdone the Army defense showed and its stars showed out. Sr LB David Dickerson was a menace finishing with 9tackles 3TFL 3sacks. The young Penn offensive line had trouble pass blocking and picking up blitzes then entire game. Overall it was a very strong performance on both sides of the ball for Army. Next week the Knights will be headed to West Virginia to play Alderson Broaddus.

Despite to scoring differential Penn did not go down without a fight. In fact, there was history made for the Quakers. Jr QB Andrew Paolini made his first start and finished with 255yards 2TD despite only completing 9 passes. The young offensive line could not protect Paolini at all as he was sacked 6 times . There were passes to be made but Paolini would often be on the ground or on the move before he could push the ball down the field. Sr RB Laquan McKever did what he could on the ground finishing with 61 yards. Where history was made was with Sr WR Brendan McCaffrey’s performance. The star receiver finished with 3rec 191yards 2TD. McCaffrey’s 191 yards is the 3rd highest single game total in Penn history and the 9th highest total in CSFL history. Penn will look to bounce back next week when they head up north to Mansfield.

CHC v AB: 28-7 CHC WIN

Player of the Game: Jr DB Ryan Jakeman 5tackles 3.5TFL 2sacks

The Friday night game was a game of first for CHC. 1st year HC Gio Thomas recorded his first win as a HC. Soph QB Lonnie Cebulski recorded his first start in college and finished with 103yards 1TD 15rushing yards 2TD. The young QB showed a mobility and elusiveness not seen at CHC since former star WR Reggie Robinson played QB for the inaugural season. Fr RB Anthony Broderick scored his first college touchdown, he finished with 77yards 1TD. The Griffins defense were led by strong play from their front 7. Jr LB Luke Attanasi led the griffins with 7tackles, he also had a TFL and a forced fumble. Jr DB Ryan Jakeman had a huge impact on the game finishing with 5tackles 3.5TFL 2sacks. Fr DL Bryan Wall set the tone for the line finishing with 4tackles 3.5TFL 3sacks. The Griffins head away next week to take on Navy.

AB showed some flashes of what they could be despite the loss. Jr QB Timmy Tillman finished the night with 116yards 1TD. The young QB had no time for most of the night. He was sacked 6 times and hit many more as he tried to find open receivers down the field. Without a doubt the bright spot of the offense was Jr WR Shamon Gennes who finished with 6rec 114yards 1TD. Gennes made multiple acrobatic catches throughout the night as he tried to uplift his team. Defensively the Battlers were led by Fr LB Darrian Bortey who finished with 15tackles 1.5TFL 1.5sacks. The Fr LB was a presence for the Battlers for the entire night. Bortey’s 15 tackles are the most tackles in a game in AB sprint football history and tie him for the 6th most in CSFL history. AB will host Army next week for their second game of the season.

Navy v STAC: 55-7 NAVY WIN

Player of the Game:Soph WR Andrew Margiotta 5rec 164yards 2TD

Navy took a lead early and never looked back. Soph QB Brandon Atwood made his debut and did not disappoint. He finished with 313yards 4TD. The young QB showed good mobility and was able to get the ball to his playmakers who helped inflate his passing numbers. Sr RB Matthew McGee started his senior campaign with 97yards 1TD. The Navy offensive line did a good job creating running lanes and allowed McGee to get going downhill.  The star of the day however has Soph WR Andrew Margiotta who finished with 5rec 164yards 2TD. His 164 yards are the 2nd highest single game total in Navy sprint football history and the 11th most in CSFL history. The Navy defense shared the wealth having 8 guys record at least 3 tackles. Navy heads back home to take on CHC next week.

The STAC offense couldn’t get things going in their home opener. Fr QB Dennis Riordan got his first start and finished with 107yards. The young QB wasn’t helped out much by his receivers who dropped a few passes throughout the game. The lone touchdown was scored by Jr RB Elizah Gordon who finished with 19 rushing yards. Fr WR Hassan Blakney showed up for his first game finishing with 5rec 73yards. The STAC defense didnt do much better giving up 55points. Sr DE Tyreke Smith showed up finishing with 11tackles 2TFL 1FF and Soph LB Chris Jones chipped in 9tackles 0.5TFL 1INT. STAC hits the road next week to take on Caldwell.

Cornell v Mansfield: 48-3 Mansfield WIN

Player of the Game: Fr QB Cahsid Raymond 168yards 2TD 158rushing yards 2TD

Mansfield opened up their season with a big win. Fr QB Cahsid Raymond terrorized the Cornell defense finishing with 168yards 2TD 158rushing yards 2TD. Raymond’s 158rushing yards is the 3rd highest single game total in Mansfield sprint football history. Soph WR Isaiah Grunden and Fr WR Latrenton Randle finished with 85yards 1TD and 83yards 1TD. Both young receivers showed how explosive they can potentially be this season. The defense was led by star LB Matt Roberts who finished with 11tackles 1.5TFL 1PBU. The dominant mike backer continues to plague opposing offenses. Fr DB Nakiem Scott also did some rewriting of the record book. Scott’s 3 ints ties CSFL HUB Hall of Famer and former standout Safety Troy Taylor for the most interception in a game in Mansfield history. Mansfield stays home and welcomes Penn next week to kick off week 2.

The Cornell offense could get moving at all. The offense failed to score a single point. A lone field goal was the only thing preventing the shutout. Jr QB Xavier Martinez threw for 106 yards. The Cornell offense could not keep any momentum going. The 2 Cornell qbs turned the ball over 4 times. The rushing attack couldn’t get going either, no ball carriers managed to find the endzone for Cornell. Sr LB Matt Peck was the lone bright spot for the defense finishing with 8tackles 1FF. Cornell takes their by week before welcoming Caldwell to Ithaca on October 1st.
