Week 5 Review

Penn v Chestnut Hill College: Penn WIN 56-7

Player of the game- Sr RB Laquan McKever 128yards 2td

The Quaker offense continues to roll recording their 3rd straight game of 50+points. Jr QB Andrew Paolini finished with 187yards 4td, this effort makes his 2nd game of the season with 4passing touchdowns. The young QB continues to have success finding his playmakers for big plays down the field. Sr RB Laquan McKever continues to dominate on the ground finishing with 128yards 2TD. Mckever has rushed for 120+yards and 2+TD in 3 straight games. Sr TE Ben Klaus had his best game of the season. Along with some ferocious blocks the Sr finished with 6rec 105yards 2TD. Defensively Fr LB Jake Inserra continues to shine. This 12tackle 1.5tfl performance is his third straight game with 10+tackles. Penn heads back home for a matchup with Caldwell next week.

Chestnut Hill continues to struggle on both sides of the ball.  Jr QB Carmen Deo got his first start of the season but didn’t fair any better than the other CHC QBs this season only throwing for 55yards and throwing 1int. Fr RB Anthony Broderi was the lone bright spot on offense rushing for 92yards 1TD. The young ball carrier has been one of the only productive players for the Griffins all season.  Jr DB Colby Goldsmith had another impressive outing leading CHC with 9tackles. Fr DL Jacob Orrick had the best game of his career finishing with 8tackles 3tfl 2sacks. The Griffins stay home and welcome Cornell to Philadelphia.

Army v Mansfield: Army WIN 19-11

Player of the Game- Sr LB David Dickerson 8tackles 1.5tfl 0.5sack 1int

This tightly contested game was decided in the last few minutes of the 4th quarter. Sr QB JC Watson was steady for Army throwing for 168yards 1TD.The impact players of the day had to be the stable of running backs who brought home the win. Fr James Windsor, Fr Landry Songer, and Soph Ryan Connors combined for 151 yards 2TD. Sr LB David Dickerson had an impact all over the field leading the team with 8tackles while adding 1.5tfl 0.5sack 1int.  Dickerson’s int came late in the 4th and helped Army secure the win. Jr DL Brendan Windsor had maybe the best came of his career finishing the afternoon with 6tackles 3.5tfl 2.5sacks.Army heads back home next week to face in state rival STAC.

Mansfield kept the game close but couldn’t bring it home. The game changed for Mansfield when Fr QB Cahsid Raymond was knocked out of the game. The young QB only had 95yards of total offense, but he has shown throughout the season that he can get big chunks of yards very quickly. Backup Fr QB Ben Briggs couldn’t get much going only throwing for 40yards. Defensively is where Mansfield really shinned. Sr LB Chase Moser and Jr LB Matt Robert had 16tackles a piece. Moser also added 2.5tfl 1.5sacks while Robert added 1tfl. Those 16tackles tie the stud linebackers for the 5th most tackles in a game in CSFL history. Fr DB Kendall Smith Jr had himself a day finishing with 5tackles 0.5tfl 0.5sack 1fr 1int. Mansfield hits the road next week to visit Alderson Broaddus.

Caldwell v Alderson Braoddus: Caldwell WINS 41-7

Player of the game-Soph RB Rahmeir McGraw 70yards 2td & Fr RB Justin Schmidt 70yards 1td.

The Cougars have just completed their best start in program history recording their 4th straight win of the season. The recipe for success has been constant throughout the 4 games. A consistent ground game with Sr RB Carl Watson and a stable of young backs and situationally pushing the ball down the field when the defense loads up to stop the run. Today two of those younger back left their mark. Soph RB Rahmeir McGraw and Fr RB Justin Schmidt combined for 140yards 3td. Jr QB Frank DeMaio continues to be a steady quarterback finishing with 139yards 2td. FR LB Andrew Conklin led the defense with 6 tackles and 2tfl. Soph DBs Brandon Curry and Tyquil Anderson both snagged an interception to help complete the impressive performance. Caldwell hit the road next week to head to Philadelphia to face Penn.

AB couldn’t match Caldwell on either side of the ball but there were some positive things that came out of the game. Jr QB Timmy Tillman threw for 143yards 1TD. Jr WR Shamon Gennes continues to be the Battlers most consistent offensive weapon finishing with a career high 9rec while adding 73yards 1TD. Soph WR Laterrian Barber added 6rec for 67yards.  On defense Fr LB Jabari Gittens-Ampadu had an outstanding day leading the team with 15tackles 1tfl 0.5sacks. His 15tackles ties him for the 6th most tackles in a single game in CSFL history. Despite the losses the Battlers continue to show that they have players who can compete and will be big time contributors for the program for years to come. AB heads back home to welcome Mansfield to West Virgina

Cornell v St. Thomas Aquinas- CORNELL WIN 30-27

Player of the game Jr RB Jacob Wynkoop 226yards 1TD 2rec 18yards

This tightly contested game went down to the final few possessions in the 4th quarter. Cornell came out on top due to the record setting performance of Jr RB Jacob Wynkoop. The young running back has been on of the lone bright spots for what has been an abysmal Cornell offense. Today the Wynkoop’s talent shined bright as he rushed for 226yards 1TD and also added 2rec for 18yards. The 226yard performance ties him for the 10th most yards in a single game in CSFL history and by far the most yard in a single game in Cornell history. Fr ATH Evan Nicholas continues to show his versatility finishing with 5rec 89yards 1TD, he also added 10rushing yards. Fr LB Billy Turner had the best game of his career finishing with 8tackles 0.5tfl 1int. The historic day gives Cornell their first win since September 14th 2019(No 2020 season due to COVID-19).Cornell hits the road next week to visit Navy.

STAC had a commanding lead heading into the 4th but couldn’t hang on for the win. The passing attack continues to be calling card of this STAC offense. Fr QB Dennis Roirdan threw for 318yards 4TD.  The promising young QB has thrown for 3+ touchdowns in 4 straight games. Jr WR Mahki Matthews finished with 11rec 115yards 2TD. This is Matthew’s second game this year with 11rec. The star receiver continues to be a catalyst for this offense.  Sr DL Tyreke Smith led the way for the Spartans on defense with 11tackles 3tfl 1sack. Another strong performance from the Sr defensive end. STAC hits the road next week to visit Army.
