Week 8 Review
Army v Cornell: ARMY WIN 66-6
Player of the game- Jr WR Donovan Mannion 3rec 81yards 1TD
Not much to decipher with this game. Army came in with a already secured ticket to the CSFL Title game so this wasn’t much more than a tune up. Soph QB Mikal Willeke played for most of the blow finishing with 131yards 3TD. The young QB has show promise during the few opportunities he has had to play this season. Willeke should have a strong shot to be the starter next season barring any unforeseen circumstances. Fr backs Henry Beck and Scott Belveal combined for 179yards 3TD. The young ball carriers made the most of their opportunities. Jr WR Donovan Mannion continues to have an impressive season. Even though his night was done early he finished with 3rec 81yards 1TD. Defensively Cornell couldn’t do much so there wasn’t a lot of stats to go around. However, 10 different Army defenders finished with 3tackles or more. Army will represent the CSFL North in the title game next Saturday.
Cornell couldn’t do much in their final game of the season. Despite 2 wins this season the program has a long way to go if they ever hope to return to relevancy. The team finished with 2 completions between three different quarterbacks and only had 46 rushing yards as a group. 3 Cornell defenders had 10+ tackles but since they were on the field for most of the game because of a lack of offense those stats lack any substance. Cornell finishes their season with 2 wins 4 losses and 1 forfeit loss.
Caldwell v Mansfield: CALDWELL WIN 51-6
Player of the game- Sr RB Carl Watson 66rushing yards 3TD 3rec 23yards
Caldwell jump on the lead immediately and dominated in their last game of the season. Taking advantage of great field position gave Caldwell a 21-0 lead at the end of the first quarter. Jr QB Frank DeMaio end the season strong throwing for 208yards 1TD and rushing for 29yards with 2TD. Sr RB Carl Watson finished his amazing career with 66yards 3TD on the ground adding 3rec for 23yards. Watson will go down as one of the best players in CSFL history. So WR Zaheir Mitchell had a career day finishing with 5rec 138yards 1td. The Caldwell defense as a whole deserves recognition after forcing 8 Mansfield turnovers. Of the 8 turnovers 6 were interceptions. Caldwell finishes their season 5-2 and claim the 2nd spot in the CSFL North.
Mansfield couldn’t get anything to go their way on offense. Bad snaps, dropped passes, and interceptions gave Caldwell the ball with a short field time and time again. Fr QB Cahsid Raymond couldn’t spark the offense they way he had done for most of the season. The young QB finished with 115yards 1TD 71rushing yards but threw 4 interceptions and had 2 fumbles. His one big pass was completed to Jr WR Myante Drayton who finished with 2rec 41yards 1TD. On the flipside Fr LB Gavin Hinman led the team with 10tackles 1tfl. Sr LB Chase Moser finished his spectacular career with 8tackles 2.5tfl 1sack. Moser has been an impact player at Mansfield since his first season and showed how versatile and dominant he can be lining up at a traditional backer spot, edge rushing, and going back to his underclassmen days to play some interior tackle. Sr DB Kayin Berger also finishes his career with 6tackles 1int. Mansfield finishes their season 4-4 and claims 3rd place in the CSFL North
Chestnut Hill v STAC: STAC WIN 20-10
Player of the game-Fr QB Dennis Riordan 210yards 2TD
STAC closes out their season with the come from behind win. Fr QB Dennis Riordan finished a spectacular season throwing for 210yards 2TD. Riordan has shown all season that he is a high caliber quarterback who should only get better with time. The future is bright for the young QB. Soph RB Bo Maroney led the team in rushing with 88yards. Jr WR Mahki Matthews closes out his breakout season with 8rec for 77yards and Soph WR Elionexis Lopez saved his best game for last finishing with 3rec for 62yards 2TD. The young receiving core should be even better next season. Defensively Soph Davion Hicks led the team with 12tackles and stud Sr DE Tyreke Smith closed out his amazing career with 7tackles 1tfl 1sack. Smith finishes his career as STACs all time leader in Tackles, TFL, and Sacks. STAC Finishes their season 2-5, despite the losses they have a bright future ahead of them.
CHC took and early lead but couldn’t hang on. Jr QB Carmen Deo only completed 6 passes for 45 yards while throwing 1int. Fr Malachi Jones led the Griffins in rushing with 48yards. Soph ATH Lonnie Cebulski scored the lone TD for the Griffins with a long Kick Return TD. Defensively Fr DB Meech Laylor led the team with 13tackles and 1tfl. Jr LB Luke Attanasi has been one of the lone bright spots all season. He finished with 7tackles 2tfl 1sack. The Griffins will have to go all in during the off season if they hope to have better performances next year. CHC finishes their season 1-6.
Navy v Penn: NAVY WIN 52-14
Player of the game- Sr RB Matthew Mcgee 194yards 2TD & Jr RB Alex Totta 54yards 4TD
Navy punched their ticket to represent the CSFL South in the title game next week. A dominant running game proved to be to much for Penn to handle. Sr QB William Leong had a steady game throwing for 119yards. The Offensive line and running backs were the real stars of the night. Sr RB Matthew Mcgee and Jr RB Alex Totta went off. Mcgee had 194yards 2TD while Totta had 54yards 4TD. The duo has been dominant all season long and should be the catalyst for any success the team has next week in the title game. Soph DL Devyn Martin had a spectacular day finishing with 10 tackles 3.5tfl 3sacks. Sr LB Mike Garnett finishes his Sr regular season with 5tackles with 1int. Garnett may not have the numbers of some guys, partly due to having less snaps because of tilted scores and a Cornell forfeit, but the Sr LB has been a stud all season long. Navy takes on Army next week at Mansfield for the CSFL title.
Penn put up some points but couldn’t match Navy. Jr QB Andrew Paolini had a off night throwing for 129yards 1TD but also 3int. He scored a late rushing TD in the fourth to help mitigate the huge scoring difference. Sr RB Laquan McKever finishes his incredible career with 35rushing yards 5rec 34yards 1TD. Sr TE Ben Klaus and Sr WR Brenden McCaffrey also finishes spectacular careers. Klaus had 2rec 50yards while McCaffrey had 1rec 4yards and some kick return yards. Unfortunately, McCaffrey couldn’t finish the game due to an injury, but the stud receiver’s career is still one to marvel at. The Penn defense had 3 players record 13+ tackles. Jr LB Lewis Evans had 15, Fr LB Cam Janock had 14, and Fr LB Jake Inserra had 13. A strong LB core with be the strength of the Penn defense as they look to improve on their 5-2 record next season.
