2022 Watch List (QBs)

Soph Mansfield QB Cahsid Raymond-1210passing yards 9TD 9INT 52% 926rushing yards 9TD

Raymond burst on to the scene with a spectacular freshmen season. Raymond brings an electric style of play to the quarterback position. As a thrower Raymond slings the ball around effortlessly with a flick of the wrist and as a runner he moves on the field with the grace and swiftness of a gazelle. This combination of attributes makes him a must watch whenever you tune in to a Mansfield game. If Raymond can build off of last year’s sucess Mansfield should be in for another great season.

SR Penn QB Andrew Paolini- 1358passing yards 19TD 4int 53% 181rushing yards 6TD

Paolini is the latest in a long line of talented quarterbacks to play for Penn. He uses his strong arm and good athleticism to make contested throws with pinpoint accuracy. Up until the last game of the year Paolini only had 1 interception on the season which shows his elite touch and control of his offense. Much more will be asked of Paolini this year since his 3 biggest weapons (WR Brendan McCaffrey, TE Ben Klaus, and RB Laquan McKever) have all graduated. There is still talent on the Penn roster with one or two guys I expect to have breakout season, but Paolini will without a doubt have to shoulder the load and lead a team full of young guys. If he can manage to do that Paolini could be in for an MVP type of season.

JR Navy QB Brandon Atwood-548passing yards 7TD 3int 67%

It didn’t take long for Atwood to show that he was different from the most recent Navy quarterbacks. The most discernable difference being how polished he his as a thrower. Before he got hurt Atwood was top 3 in the league in passing touchdowns and his 67% completion percentage was still the highest of any QB that started at least 3 games. While the basis of the Navy offense is still running the ball, Atwood allows Navy to be more dynamic and threating in the passing game. Something they haven’t been in many years. Expect Atwood to come out with something to prove and show that he is one of the best quarterbacks in the league.

SR Caldwell QB Frank DeMaio- 1036passing yards 8TD 3int 48% 174rushing yards 3TD

DeMaio is fresh off leading Caldwell to their best season in program history. The former WR transitioned to QB last yearand never looked back. DeMaio takes that wide receiver mobility and uses it to extend plays while looking for guys down the field or running for the first down. He might not generate as many rushing yards as Cahsid Raymond or some other notable quarterbacks of the that played the last few years, but he is a treat with his legs when the opportunity presents itself. When the run game is threating defenses, he can be very efficient with the play action pass as well.If DeMaio can replicate last year’s sucess he has a chance to go down as the best quarterback in Caldwell history.
