2022 Watch List (WR)

Army Sr WR Donovan Mannion- 32rec 520yards 9TD

Mannion had a breakout season during his first year as a starter. A combination of great route running and length makes Mannion a difficult guy to guard. He’s even more dangerous because he does the most of his damage from the slot. He’s often to skilled for safeties to cover and too fast for linebackers to cover. This is the matchup Army looks to exploit the most since Mannion their best offensive player. Mannion could be in the MVP conversation with a strong Sr season.

STAC Sr WR Mahki Matthews – 44rec 526yards 6TD

Matthews has been a menace in the league since his freshmen season. The speedy receiver makes a ton of plays using his quickness to make it happen in the open field after the catch. Despite his size he will often make physical 50/50 catches down the field on bigger defensive backs. It’s been a pleasure to watch him grow from a deep threat specialist into a dynamic all around receiver. Matthews is without a doubt one of the best offensive players in the league and a must watch whenever you turn on a St. Thomas Aquinas game.

Navy Jr WR Andrew Margiotta- 24rec 496yards 5TD

Margiotta is one of my favorite players to watch in the CSFL. Navy has lacked an elite passing game for a few years now. Part of that has been due to quarterback woes but some of it did fall on the lackluster talents at the receiver position. In one season Margiotta has shown that this will no longer be the case during his tenure. He uses his long frame to make big body plays in the middle of the field and brings the boom to defenders to get extra yards after the catch. Margiotta has proven to be the best receiver Navy has had in almost a decade. Paired up with star QB Brandon Atwood, Margiotta should make a lot of noise this season.

STAC Soph WR Hassan Blakney- 31rec 427yards 3TD

Blakney was statistically the most dynamic freshman receiver in the CSFL last season. He finished top 5 in the league in receptions, yards, and touchdowns. This is an amazing accomplishment for someone who was only a freshman. Blakney started the year with a monster 9rec 197yard 3TD game. His 197yards are the 6th most receiving yards ever in a CSFL game. Being paired up with star receiver Mahki Matthews means Blakney often gets the 2nd best corner or safety guarding him. This allows the STAC offense to exploit certain matchups throughout the season. I expect Blakney to make a major leap from year one to year two. He should continue to dominate in the league for years to come.
