Week 6 Review

CSFL

Penn v Navy: Navy win 42-14

Player of the game: Sr RB Alex Totta- 110yards 3TD

 With this win Navy secures the South division title and advance to the championship game on November 14th. In typical Navy fashion a relentless rushing attack is what won the game. Sr RB Alex Totta continues to dominate finishing the game with 110rushing yards 3TDs. When it’s all said and done Totta will be remembered as one of the best running backs to ever play in the CSFL and to ever come through Navy. Jr QB Brandon Atwood had a solid day throwing for 101yards 1TD. Defensively Sr linebacker Paul Kuehler and Jr linebacker Jack Costigan led the way with 8 tackles a piece. Navy hits the road next week to visit Alderson Broaddus. 

Penn started out strong but lost momentum as the game went on. Sr QB Andrew Paolini had another productive game finishing this one with 207yards 2TD 2int. Paolini was also the team’s leading rusher on the night adding 51yards. Fr WR Brandon Graves and Soph WR Jake Wang continue to show that they are one of the best tandems of wide receivers in the league. Graves finished with 7rec 91yards and Wang finished with 9rec 80yards. Soph LB Jake Inserra led the way for Penn on the defensive side of the ball with 12tackles 2TFL. Penn heads home to close out their season against Mansfield.

Chestnut Hill v Cornell: Cornell win 28-14

Player of the game: Sr QB Xavier Martinez -174yards 3TD 1rushing touchdown 

Cornell wins this one with their most impressive offensive performance of the season. Sr QB Xavier Martinez threw for 174yards 3TD and added one score on the ground. This is the first time the senior has thrown for 3 touchdowns in a game. Jr RB Ralph Fleuranvil led the team in rushing with 68yards. Sr WR Colton Kotecki had by far the biggest games of his career. The senior ended the night with 4rec 116yards 2TD. On the defensive side of the ball, it was two seniors that helped hold Chestnut Hill down. Sr DB Ross Halpern had 10tackles 2.5TFL 1sack and Sr DL Zac McPherson followed up with 9tackles 3.5TFL 0.5sack. Cornell hits the road next week to visit Caldwell.

Chestnut Hill continues to struggle as they search for their first win of the season. Soph QB CJ Small was the most effective quarterback to play in this one for CHC. Small threw for 90yards and 1TD late in the game to help stop the bleeding. Soph RB Ira Baine led the team in rushing, finishing with 44yards 1TD.  Sr LB Ryan Jakeman and Jr LB Jonathan Oister led the way for the Griffins with 7tackles a piece. Soph DL Dennis Cranston was the leader up front adding 6tackles 2.5TFL 0.5sack. Chestnut Hill heads back home to welcome STAC to Philadelphia. 

Caldwell v STAC: Caldwell win 20-6

Player of the game: Soph LB Andrew Conklin – 10tk 5TFL 2.5sacks 1ff

Despite some turnovers the Cougars pulled out the win. Sr QB Frank DeMaio threw for 149yards 2TD 3int. That’s more interceptions than usual for the senior but Caldwell still managed to escape with the victory. Fr RB Devon Turner continues to impress, this time he finished with 126yards 1TD.  Turner continues to show that he is one of the better young ball carriers in the CSFL. Soph LB Andrew Conklin had a monster game for the Cougars. The star linebacker finished with 10tackles 5TFL 2.5sacks. Thats a career high in tackles for loss for Conklin. Caldwell heads back home to gear up for Cornell.

STAC showed up in this one but couldn’t stop the Caldwell ground attack. The Spartans benefited from the return of Soph QB Ryan Kenny who had been out the last few weeks. Kenny threw for 141yards 1TD 1int. Soph WR Hassan Blakney continues to be one of the bright spots for the STAC offense. Blakney led the team with 5rec 73yards 1TD. Soph LB Chris Jones led the team in tackles with 12. Fr DB Erick Campbell continues to make plays on defense. He followed up last week’s performance with 2tackles 2int. Campbell has shown some inconsistencies but it’s clear he is one of the Spartans better defensive players. STAC hits the road to go take on Chestnut Hill. 

Mansfield v Army: Army win 54-6

Player of the game: Sr WR Donovan Mannion- 4rec 107yards 3TD

Army scored early and often in this matchup. Jr QB Mikal Willeke threw for 255yards 3TD. Willeke continues to show that he is the type of player Army has been missing at the quarterback position the last few seasons. 8 Army ball carriers contributed to the 163yards on the ground. Sr WR Donovan Mannion continues to have a strong senior campaign finishing this one with 4rec 107yards 3TD. Jr LB Luke Gogliotti led the team in tackles with 8. Jr DB Caleb Self had his best game of the season. Self ended the night with 4tk 1ff 1int 3pbu. The junior defensive back was a menace all night. Army heads into the bye week before they take on Caldwell to end the regular season. 

Mansfield couldn’t overcome all of the turnovers which put them in bad spots. Soph QB Cahsid Raymond threw for 85 yards with 5interceptions. The Mansfield receivers struggled to get open all night which didn’t do Raymond any favors. However Raymond did what he could on the ground leading Mansfield in rushing with 136yards. On defense Soph LB Gavin Hinman and Fr LB Bobby Dell had 15tackles a piece to lead the Mansfield defense. Sr LB Matt Robert followed up with 10tackles 1TFL 1sack. Mansfiled hits the road again to take on Penn in Philadelphia.

MSFL

Midway v Bellarmine: Bellarmine win 49-31

Player of the game: Fr RB Brenden Reid-232 rushing yards 2TD 2rec 24yards 1TD.

The Bellarmine offense was firing on all cylinders. The 49 points the knights put up are the most points they’ve scored all season. Fr QB Dyaln Gough threw for a career high 209yards 3TD 1int. Gough looked good pushing the ball down field finding multiple receivers throughout the game. Fr RB Brenden Reid stole the show once again. The star running back ran for a career high 232yards 2TD and added 1 receiving TD. Reid is one of the most electrifying players in the MSFL. Sr RB Devan Hendricks added 104yards and 2 touchdowns of his own. The pair combined for 336rushing yards and 5TDs. Fr ATH Tavius Francis showed his versatility by leading the team in receiving yards with 98yards and adding 1TD while also recording 1 interception on the defensive side of the ball. Fr DL Royce Hall did great up front finishing with 6tackles 2TFL 1sack.Bellarmine hits the road next week to visit CCSJ.

Midway kept it close for most of the game but couldn’t close it out. Fr QB DJ Palmer had one of his best games of the season throwing for 140yards 2 TD and rushing for 62yards with 1TD. Fr RB Kaden Parraz led the team in rushing with 73yards and added 1TD. The stars of the show for Midway were Fr receivers Ja’Shawn Lee and Penther Alphonse. The pair combined for 5rec 121yards 2TD. Fr DB Tarice Mckinney Jr  helped to try and slow down the Bellarmine offense. The freshman had 5tackles 1TFL 1sack. Midway heads back home to end their season vs Quincy. 

Fontbonne v Quincy: Quincy win 35-6

Player of the game: Sr Ath Taylor Klusmeyer- 275yards 4TD 60rushing yards

The Quincy offense was clicking better than they have all season. Sr ATH Taylor Klusmeyer had his best day throwing the ball finishing with 275yards 4TD. Klusmeyer had transitioned to playing receiver for a few weeks but looked impressive in his return to quarterback. Fr WR Exavior Hinton had a career day ending the afternoon with 7rec 184yards 1TD. Soph LB Ray Lingard has been one of the leaders for this Quincy defense. They young linebacker led the team with 11tackles 3tfl 3sacks 1ff 1fr. Lingard is one of the best backers in the MSFL and one of my favorite players to watch. Quincy hits the road to end the season against Midway in Kentucky. 

Fontbonne struggled after getting their first win of the season last week. Fr ATH Chris Reckel couldn’t capture last week’s magic. He only threw for 62yards 1TD 2int.  Fr RB Darrion White led the team in rushing yards 68. White has been a consistent presence in the Griffins backfield all season. Fr LB Avion Bass led the team in tackles with 11 and 1.5tfl. The usually stout Fontbonne defense struggled against Quincy. Fontbonne finishes their season next week against SMWC. 

CCSJ v SMWC: CCSJ win 30-27

Player of the game: Fr RB Jonathan Flemings – 148rushing yards 1TD 1rec 3yards

CCSJ squeaked out the win in another classic game played between these two teams. Fr QB Blaze Cano didn’t have his best day throwing for 81yards 1TD 1int but it was enough for the win.The star of the day was Fr RB Jonathan Flemings who ran for 148yards 1TD. Flemings has been the catalyst for the Crimson Wave all season and did not disappoint in this matchup. Fr LB Trevor Busse led the team in tackles with 11. Fr DB Quindarius Davis was a leader in the secondary finishing with 4tackles 1int 1pbu. CCSJ finishes the regular season at home next week in a crucial matchup against Bellarmine.  

SMWC loses their first game of the season. Fr QB Brennon Landry was held in check by the CCSJ defense. Landry only threw for 91yards 1int 1rushing TD. Fr RB Patrick Perea left his imprint on the game. The young back led the team in rushing with 73yards 1TD 4rec 48yards. Perea is one of the names to know among the running backs in the MSFL. Fr DL/LB Treyveon Jackson was one of the standouts for SMWC. Jackson had 8tackles 2.5TFL 1sack. SMWC looks to get things back on track next week vs Fontbonne.
