Names to know: DL

Navy Sr Devyn Martin-2022 35tk 9tfl 4sacks 3ff

Martin is one of the most consistent players on the Navy defense. His numbers were a little down compared to his sophomore season but that can be attributed to him no longer being a surprise across the CSFL and the other talented players around him making plays. Now that his is a senior and an unquestioned leader on the defense I expect him to return to form as one of the better defensive linemen in the CSFL. His motor and strength make a lot of plays for himself and his teammates. Even though he isn’t the most polished pass rusher his internal and physical attributes keep him around the ball making plays. Martin is certainly a player to watch for the Navy defense.

Penn Jr Cam Janock-2022 44tk 7tfl 2sacks 1int 1ff

Janock has consistently improved every year that his been in the CSFL. I think there is yet another level Janock can take his game to. He is tasked with a hard job playing defensive end for a team that heavily uses a 3 man front. He is asked to do a lot to effect the run game and create opportunities for the Penn linebackers to make plays. Despite that fact he still finished third on the team in tackles last season and second in tackles for loss. He doesn’t get a ton of great pass rushing opportunities and when he does I would like to see more consistency with his pass rush moves but even so he has still proven himself to be a defensive star for the Quakers.

STAC Soph Donnell White-2022 34tk 9.5tfl 5.5sacks

White was one of the best players on the Spartans defense last season. He finished the year as the Spartans leader in tackles for loss & sacks while finishing second on the team in tackles. Some players never achieve such a feat in their entire careers let alone in their first season. White is very physical at the point of attack and plays with a good intensity and motor. It be interesting to see if he has the same type of production as the main star on the defensive line. Either way White will certainly be a player to watch for the Spartans defense.

Fontbonne Jr Zachary Allison-2022 34tk 3tfl 1sack

Due to the unfortunate closing of Alderson Broaddus Allison found himself in need of a new home. Luckily he has found that home at Fontbonne. Allison was already one of the better players on defense for AB and should be the same for the Griffins. In fact he should be even better now that he is a Jr and paired up with some other good players like Soph LB Avion Bass who is a great young linebacker. His numbers should improve dramatically especially his tackles for loss and sacks. His impact will be even bigger than the numbers can quantify as he is already considered a veteran in his locker-room. I’m happy to see him with a new team and look forward to seeing him and his former teammates who have also found home play this season.

Chestnut Hill Soph Jonathan Havrilak -2022 38tk 10tfl 5.5sacks

Havrilak was a star on a CHC team that struggled last season. Despite the team woes he performed at a high level. Havrilak is already one of the best interior defensive linemen in the CSFL and should only improve heading into his second season. His get off and aggressiveness with the hands are what impress me most during these early stages of his career. Like his peer Donnell White, Havrilak led the Griffins in tackles for loss & sacks in his first season. The sky is the limit for this young defensive linemen. Chestnut Hill is counting on him to be great as they hope to get things turned around this season.

Mansfield Soph Ian Mapp-2022 32tk 13tfl 4sacks

In his first season Mapp showed that he can be a force in the CSFL. Fortunately for him he spent his first year playing opposite all time great Chaser Moser. This often left him in one on one which he took advantage of more times than not. Now with Moser gone Mapp is the best defensive lineman for the Mountaineers. Strength is the name of the game when it comes to Mapp. He should be even stronger and more comfortable in his second season as he continues to grow and mature. Mapp is a player to watch and could do some major damage to opposing offenses this year.
