Names to know: DB

Caldwell Jr DB Kyle Readus-2022 12tk 2int 8pbu

Readus is one of the best defensive players in all of sprint football. The lock down corner made an immediate impact for the Cougars when he joined the team in 2021. Readus has all of the tools you would want in a corner. You can have him play man, zone, off coverage, or press. It doesn’t matter Readus can do all of those things at a high level. Readus is also one of the only guys who you can confidently put on the opposing teams best receiver. Best on best is something I value highly when evaluating a corner and Readus covers top guys as well as anyone in the CSFL or MSFL. Readus is the guy to watch on a Caldwell defense with a loaded secondary.

STAC Sr Shawn Benard-2022 19tk 1tfl 3int 5pbu

Benard is another guy who any coach would feel confident matching up with the opposing team’s top receiver. He is up there with Readus as one of the best corners in all of sprint football. Benard has been a key piece for the Spartans as they have searched for their identity as a program. He has been an essential player in some big program wins and has had great performances against some of the CSFL’s best. I’m excited to watch Benard play his senior season as one of the best corners in the CSFL.

CCSJ Soph Quindarius Davis- 2022 33tk 2.5tfl 3int 7pbu

Davis showed out in his first season in the MSFL. The young defensive back showed his versatility by lining up at corner and safety throughout the season. Davis is a legit cover guy but he also hits as hard as any defensive back in the MSFL. His physicality made a lot of plays for the Crimson Wave defense. Davis is already one of the best defensive backs in the MSFL and with a strong sophomore season he could elevate himself to being one of the best defensive backs in all of sprint football.

Navy Sr Nadir Emlemdi-2022 20tk .5tfl 3int 3pbu

Emlemdi has been a very good player for the Navy defense the last two seasons. He has had quite the shoes to fill following the likes of all time greats Grant Hooper and Adam Weisnesfels. He isn’t at the level of those two but has done a good job with the talent around him. Emlemdi is a good enough corner to compete with most receivers in the CSFL. You can count on him to be a solid tackler and compete on 50/50 balls. Emlemdi will be called upon to line up against some of the CSFL’s best. He’ll be a player to keep track of on the Navy defense.

Caldwell Jr Amajuwan Murray-2022 43tk 1.5tfl 1fr 2int 1pbu

Caldwell heads into the 2023 season with a loaded secondary. Kyle Readus, Tyquil Anderson, and Gennaro Longobardi are all fantastic players in their own right. The other secondary player that makes this Cougar’s defense so strong is Amajuwan Murray. The hard hitting safety consistently finds himself around the ball making plays. He was tied for the team high in total tackles and led the team in solo tackles. Murray is one of the best safeties in the CSFL and will be one of the driving forces of the Cougars defense.
