Week 4 Review

CSFL

CHC v STAC-STAC win 46-28

Player of the game: Sr WR Jayden Bennermon 97rushing yards 1TD 4rec 107yards 3TD

The Spartans went back and forth with the Griffins but broke the game open in the 2nd half. Jr QB Ryan Kenny had a career day throwing for 342yards 5TD.This 5 TD performance ties him with close to a dozen names for the 2nd most passing TD in a game in sprint football history. Normally a performance like that would be the focus of the game but the man of the night was Jr WR Jayden Bennermon who had an amazing stat line finishing with 97rushing yards 1TD 4rec 107yards 3TD. Bennermon had one of the best performances in Spartan history. Fr WR Nyir Jones continues to have a great freshman season finishing this game with 6rec 116yards 1TD.On defense Soph DL Donnell White and Sr DB JT Perry had monster nights combining for 26tk 5tfl. STAC hits the road next week to go take on Penn in Philadelphia.

CHC kept it close for the majority of the game but fell apart late. Soph QB Anthony Cancellare threw for 149yards 2TD 2int, he also added 1rushing TD on the ground. Despite the turnover the Griffins were in the game up until the 4th quarter. CHC ran for 153 yards as a team with Soph RB Zyier Pannell and Soph RB Miles Coates leading the way. Jr TE Nick Ocampo way the main receiving target finishing with 4rec 44yards. Fr DB Abraham Kamara led the Griffins defense with 9tk 2tfl. Fr LB Amir Jenkins had a solid game as well adding 8tk 2.5tfl 0.5sack. CHC heads home next week to take on Mansfield for the first time this season.

Army v Navy-Army win 10-3

Player of the game: Fr RB Arthur Lavalais 124yards 1TD

This game was close all the way through with the game winning touchdown from Fr RB Arthur Lavalis coming with 47sec left in the 4th quarter. The usually explosive passing game led by Sr QB Mikal Willeke was held to just 64yards with 1int. What won the Black Knights the game was the consistent running from Fr RB Arthur Lavalais who had a career high 124yards 1TD. Lavalais had explosive runs throughout the game that chipped away at the Navy defense. Sr LB Christian Dionisio led the team with 8tk 1tfl. Sr DL Ryan Rast consistently found his way into the Navy backfield, he finished the game with 5tk 2tfl 1sack. Army hits the road next week to take on Cornell.

Navy stepped up on both sides of the ball but the Army rushing attack led by Arthur Lavalais proved to be too much in the end. Sr QB Brandon Atwood didn’t have his best game throwing for 90yards 2int. Sr RB Victor Otero led the team in rushing with 88yards. The Navy receivers struggled to get open all night, no navy receiver had 40 yards through the air. Defensively Sr DL Devyn Martin led the team with 12tk 1tfl. The usually stout Navy front 7 did little to slow down Army rejuvenated running game. Navy heads home next week to take on Caldwell.

Mansfield v Caldwell-Mansfield win 13-6 OT

Player of the game: Jr QB Cahsid Raymond 96yards 2int 108rushing yards 1TD

These two team always get after it whenever they matchup and this outing was no different. A 6-6 tie sent the game into OT. Heroic efforts from Jr QB Cahsid Raymond and strong play from the defense late won the Mountaineers the game. Raymond didn’t throw a touchdown and did turn it over twice but his 108rushing yards were the main source of offense for Mansfield. Whenever Mansfield stalled or fell flat Raymond found a way to get things going. Soph DL Ian Mapp was a force on defense finishing with 10tk 4.5tfl 1sack. Sr LB Matt Robert continues to wrap up his historic career adding 10tk 1.5tfl 0.5sack. Fr DB Chase Thompson came down with 2interceptions that swung the momentum in Mansfield’s favor. Mansfield hits the road next week to visit CHC.

Caldwell was there every step of the way and if it weren’t for a dropped pass here and there and a TD run getting called back because of a penalty the Cougars could have won this one. Sr QB Frank DeMaio threw for 96yards 2int. Drops by his receivers didn’t help to team totals but DeMaio did have an uncharacteristic game. Soph RB Devon Turner led the team on the ground with 45yards. Sr WR Jeremy Colon was the bright spot for the Cougars offense leading the team with 7rec 73yards. Jr DB Amajuwan Murray led the team with 8tk 1int. Jr DB Michael Bonsu had a good game adding 8tk 3tfl. Caldwell hits the road next week to take on Navy.

MSFL

Quincy v Midway- Quincy win 24-7

Player of the game: Soph WR Nasir Carson 5rec 101yards 1TD

The Hawks got rolling early scoring a touchdown on their first drive. After that the game was never in doubt. Fr QB Duece Allaway threw for 155yards 1TD 1int. The Hawks used multiple ball carriers to rush for 156yards 1TD as a team. The main offense threat was Soph WR Nasir Carson who had career highs in receptions 5 yards 101 and touchdowns 1. Fr LB Antwan Rocquemore led the team in tackles with 9. Soph DL Bryce Vaught had his 2nd explosive game of the year finishing with 7tk 3tfl 1sack. There is always room for improvement but Quincy is playing very solid football. With a 3-1 record Quincy heads into the bye before they go visit SMWC.

Midway prevented Quincy from scoring at will but didn’t provide enough punch back to keep the game close. Fr QB Keegan Hill threw for 212yards 1TD 2int. Fr RB Mike Anderson had a game high 83 rushing yards. Fr WR Dameon Miller and Fr Rudy Loomis were responsible for 14rec 135yards. Loomis has been very impressive so far during his freshman season. He has 281 yards in four games which is the second most in sprint football at this point of the season. The Midway offense has had its highs and lows so far this season but their brightest stars continue to flash their potential. On defense Soph LB Luke Guerrero and Fr LB Noah Watson did what they could to slow down the Hawks combining for 17tk 3.5tfl 1.5sacks.Watson also had 1int 1pbu. Midway goes into the bye before they welcome Oakland City.

Fontbonne v Walsh- Fontbonne win 12-6

Player of the game: Fr WR KJ Burns 3rec 144yards 1TD

Fontbonne withstood a gritty performance for a young Walsh team to secure the win. Fr QB Temaj Taylor continues to show the type of player he can become as he matures. The young QB threw for 187yards 1TD 1int. His arm talent is top tier. I can count on one hand all of the guys in the CSFL & MSFL who can rip it like he can. As he gains more experience the Griffins could have a really special QB at the helm. Fr WR KJ Burns was the offensive spark the team need to win. Taylor finished with 3rec 144yards 1TD. Defensively Soph LB Avion Bass did it again leading the team in tackles with 14 and had 2tfl. Soph DB Donte Lewis put the final nail in the coffin with an acrobatic 71yard pick 6 to give Fontbonne the lead. Fontbonne goes into their bye next week before they take on CCSJ on the road.

Walsh continues to improve week to week and its becoming very clear they will be a dangerous team for years to come. The offense continues to have its ups and downs. This week the passing game was nonexistent with the Cavaliers only throwing for 15yards with 2int. However the running game made things interesting. Soph Ath Jalen Gordon ran for a career high 108yards 1TD. While the other young explosive players on the Walsh roster were held in check Gordon made his presence felt. On defense Walsh had a balanced attack. No on player stuck out to much but Fr DL Tyionta Sellers led the team in tackles with 5. Walsh heads into the bye next week before they take on undefeated Bellarmine on the road.

CCSJ v Oakland City – CCSJ win 21-0

Player of the game: Soph RB Elijah Antis 65rushing yards 1TD

CCSJ slowly pulled away for Oakland City as the game went on. The passing game continues to be a source of concern for the Wave but it didn’t stop them from winning this game. Fr QB Javeion Lewis and Fr QB Destry Peoples combined for 80yards 3int. This continues to be an area of inconsistency for that wave that they will need to fix if they hope to finish the season strong. Soph RB Elijah Antis was the main source of offense for the Wave finishing with 65yards on the ground with 1TD. On defense Soph DB Josh Tejeda & Soph LB Alexander Dellaechaie led the way combining for 11tk 2tfl 1sack 2ff. CCSJ hits the bye before they welcome Fontbonne to Indiana.

Oakland City stayed close for a while but a lack of offense didn’t do them any favors. Fr QB Jacob Lee threw for 87yards 1int. Lee was also the teams leading rusher with 16yards on the ground. On defense there was a lot more to talk about. Fr DL Keith Hall had a monster game finishing with 14tk 6tfl 2sacks 3ff 1fr. Hall’s 6tfl tie him for the 2nd most in a game in sprint football history. Right behind him was Fr DB Kanye Johnson who had 13tk 4tfl 1sack.Johnson has been a constant presence for the Oaks during his freshman season. Oakland City enters the bye and then will hit the road to take on Midway.

Bellarmine v SMWC- Bellarmine win 56-50 OT2

Player of the game: Soph RB Brenden Reid 114yards 3TD 2rec 19yards & Fr QB Luke Worley 206yards 3TD 2rushing TD

This shootout was one of the best game I have ever seen during my time as a player and reporter covering the CSFL & MSFL. It was a nailbiter that had me on the edge of my seat up until the very last play. Fr QB Luke Worley had a career day throwing for 206yards 3TD and rushing for 2TDs on the ground. Worley has come a long way in a short time. His improvement week to week is evident. Soph RB Brenden Reid was his usual self leading the way for the Knights on the ground with 114yards 3TD. The Pomeroys had Reid bottled up early but his hard running style created big plays late in the game. Fr WR Tyler Smith also had a career day finishing with 6rec 99yards 3TD. On defense Fr DB Lance Weiter led the team with 10tk. The other leader for the Knights was Soph LB Caleb Murray who had 9tk 4.5tfl 1.5sacks 1ff. Bellarmine heads into the bye before they hit the road to take on Walsh in Ohio.

SMWC were the other side of one of the most exciting games in sprint football history. Jr QB Jeremiah Tosky had a record breaking day throwing for 419yards 6TD while adding 40yards on the ground with 1rushing TD. Tosky’s 419yards are the 3rd most passing yards in a game in sprint football history and his 6passing TDs are the 2nd most passing TDs in a game in sprint football history. Tosky showed that he his one of the best quarterbacks in all of sprint football. Soph RB Patrick Perea ran for a team high 85yards. The Pomeroy receivers were absolutely amazing. Soph WR Devron Johnson had 5rec 112yards 1TD, Soph TE Carlos Munoz had 11rec 111yards 2TD, and Fr WR Calvin Jasey had 5rec 92yards 3TD. A truly record setting day for the entire Pomeroys offense. On defense Fr DL Di’lon Harvey continues to be a force leading the team with 14tk 5.5tfl 2sacks. He’s only a freshman but Harvey looks like one of the best players in the MSFL. SMWC hits the bye before they take on Quincy at home.
