Week 6 Review

CSFL

Army v STAC- Army win 43-0

Army was in control of this one from start to finish. The bad weather didn’t do much to slow down the Army offense. Sr QB Mikal Willeke found Sr WR Maurice Bellan early in the game to get things going. Fr RB Arthur Lavalais continues to have a strong first season adding another rushing TD in this game bringing his season total to 4. Jr DB Jonathan Abrahams had his first career interception in the game which set up another Army score. Overall the Army defense proved to be to match for STAC to overcome. Army hits a bye week before they take on Caldwell to end the regular season.

STAC struggled to get much going in this one. The absence of Sr ATH Reno Molina and Sr WR Jayden Bennermon was a big loss for the Spartans offense. STAC will be looking to rebound next week against Mansfield.

Navy v CHC- Navy win 48-7

Player of the game: Sr QB Brandon Atwood 163yards 4TD 74rushing yards

Navy moved the ball through the air and on the ground tremendously in this all around win. Sr QB Brandon Atwood played lights out throwing for 163yards 4TD with 74 yards on the ground. The rushing attack saw 4 different ball carriers rush for over 40+ yards. Fr RB Hunter Gennicks had the highest total by the end of the game with 115yards and 1 TD. Sr WR Jobe Long was the leading receiver with 7rec 59yards 2TD.On defense Sr LB Jack Costigan led the team with 8tk 1tfl 1sack. A long interception return by Sr DB Dante Carrasco helped Navy extend their lead even further. Navy hits the road to visit Cornell next week.

Despite the scoring difference CHC did manage to generate good offense throughout the game. Soph QB Anthony Cancellare threw for 148yards but no touchdowns with 1int. Backup QB CJ Small came in and added another 91 yards. Soph RB Zyier Punell led the team in rushing with 42yards 1TD. Fr WR Nazir Bryant was the go to target through the air. The young receiver had the best game of his career finishing with 4rec 61yards.Defensively Soph LB Lex Williams had a game high 11tk. CHC hits the road for a short drive to Franklin Field to play Penn.

Mansfield v Cornell-Mansfield win 20-7

Player of the game: Jr QB Cahsid Raymond 127yards 1TD 110rushing yards 1TD & Sr RB Terrance Quaker 86rushing yards 1TD 3rec 55yards 1TD

Mansfield leaned heavily on their main playmakers in this matchup. Jr QB Cahsid Raymond had his most polished game of the season throwing for 127yards 1TD and rushing for 110yards 1TD. The star QB also had zero turnovers for the first time this season. Sr RB Terrance Quaker showed how versatile and valuable he is to the Mansfield offense. Quaker finished with 141 all purpose yards 2TD. On defense Jr LB Gavin Hinman led the team with 11tk. That’s the third double digit tackle game this season for the junior backer. Mansfield hits the road next week to go matchup with STAC

Cornell continues to struggle this season. Sr QB Cooper Wise threw for 53yards and ran for 61yards 1TD. The rushing attack was the most productive part of the Cornell offense. Cornell ended the game with 147 rushing yards between three ball carriers. The 147 yards on the ground is a season high for Cornell. On defense Sr LB Michael Mosier led the team with 8tk 1.5tfl. Cornell heads back home to welcome Navy.

MSFL

SMWC v Quincy- SMWC win 28-14

Player of the game: Fr RB Derron Hazzard 67rushing yards 2TD

SMWC managed to pull out the win despite the sloppy play. Jr QB Jeremiah Tosky had one of his least productive games of the year throwing for 80yards 1TD 3int. Tosky is just one game removed for a 400+yard 6TD performance. The Pomeroys will need more play like that as they look to close out the season strong. The running game continues to be where the Pomeroys find consistent success. The 171yards on the ground as a team was led by the efforts of Fr RB Derron Hazzard who had a team high 67yards 2TD. On defense Soph DB Elias DeJesus had 7tk 1int and Soph LB Jake Skinner added 7tk 1tfl 1sack 1ff 1fr. SMWC hits the road to take on Walsh in Ohio.

Quincy hung in there for most of the game but couldn’t do enough to secure the victory. Fr QB Deuce Allaway threw for 148yards 2int. The pressure SMWC got on Allaway didn’t help his totals. The young QB was sacked four times in the loss. Where the Hawks saw a lot of success was on the ground. Jr RB CJ Jackson had a game high 98yards with 2TD. When Jackson is healthy Quincy is noticeably more explosive in the running game. Soph WR Camden Pye had a game high 74yards on 2 receptions. A big 72 yarder put the Hawks in great field position. On defense Soph DL Owen Kiso led the team with 9tk. Quincy stays on the road next week to go take on Oakland City.

Bellarmine v Walsh- Bellarmine win 36-26

Player of the game: Fr RB Derrik Gant 13yards 1TD 4rec 94yards 1TD

Bellarmine managed to hold on even with a late push from a young Walsh team. Fr QB Luke Worley threw for 200yards 2TD 2int. The young QB has looked more comfortable as the season has gone on. Turnovers are always a focus with a young QB but Worley has proved he has the ability to get better week after week. Fr RB Derrik Gant had maybe the best game of his young career. The young RB finished with 107 all purpose yards 2TD. Gant should be utilized a lot in the Knights offense going down the stretch. Fr LB Luke Jackson led the way on defense finishing with 7tk 0.5tfl. Jr DL Michael Miller was disruptive upfront ending the game with 4tk 1.5tfl 1.5sacks. Bellarmine stays home to matchup with Fontbonne.

Walsh played good defense to keep things close but couldn’t overcome a lackluster offensive performance. Soph QB Kyree Fox threw for 77yards 1TD 1int. Fr WR Keion Hawkins-Simms who is usually the teams leading receiver was the main source of rushing yards on the day. The freshman had a team high 42yards 1TD on the ground. The strongest part of the Walsh team was the defense. Fr DL Alikwon Harris had a team high 9tk 2tfl 0.5sack. Fr DL Tyionta Sellers had a great day as well finishing with 6tk 2tfl 1ff 1fr(81 yard return). Fr DB Jhordan Peete also a had a fumble recovery scored for a TD. The Cavalier defense showed that they can make plays against the best teams in the MSFL. Walsh stays home to welcome SMWC.

Midway v Oakland City-Midway win 20-12

Player of the game: Soph DB Brady Bond 6tk 2int 1pbu

Midway managed to outlast a Oakland City team still searching for their first win. Fr QB Keegan Hill threw for 102yards 1TD 2int. Fr RB Matthew Young continues to lead the way on the ground ending this game with 76yards 1TD. Both Young and Hill continue to show flashes of what they can become in the future and what this Midway offense could potentially be in the next few years. On defense a few players played lights out and helped secure the win. Soph LB Luke Guerrero led the team with 11tk 2tfl. Fr DL Peyton Brazier had 7tk with a team high 3tfl. Soph DB Brady Bond had one of the best games of his career ending the night with 6tk 2int 1pbu.Midway hits the road next week to visit CCSJ.

Oakland City made a run at it late but couldnt overcome the Midway defense. Fr QB Jacob Lee had a career high 239yards 1TD 3int. Lee did have three interceptions but he did manage to throw his first career TD to Fr Eduardo Luna who also had a career day finishing with 7rec 139yards 1TD. Fr LB Darius Pope led the way on defense ending with a team high 8tk 1.5tfl. Luna also added his talents to the defense securing 1int to help Oakland City’s efforts. Oakland City heads home to welcome Quincy.

CCSJ v Fontbonne – CCSJ win 19-6

Player of the game: Soph LB Trevor Busse 12tk 3.5tfl

CCSJ won this game on the back of their defense. Offensively the Wave are still searching for consistency. The three quarterbacks that played for CCSJ combined for just 7 yards with one completion. Fr QB Javeion Lewis and Soph DB Nino Barbosa both rushed for a touchdown giving the Wave some breathing room. The defense was that catalyst for this win. Soph LB Trevor Busse led the team with 12tk 3.5tfl. Soph LB Alexander Dellaechaie had a great game finishing with 9tk 4tfl 1sack. The backer duo has played great all season despite some team struggles to start the year. CCSJ stays home to welcome Midway next week

Fontbonne struggled to get their offense rolling against a strong CCSJ defense. Fr QB Temaj Taylor threw for 172yards 1TD 2int. Taylor has shown the ability to push the ball down the field but he will need to cut down on the turnovers as the Griffins hope to finish strong and get favorable playoff seeding. Fr RB KJ Burns led the team with 3rec 88yards 1TD. Fr DB Jeremiah Dorsey had a productive game leading the team with 13tk 1.5tfl. Soph LB Avion Bass was right behind him adding 12tk 2tfl. Bass and Dorsey have been a strong pair all season and will be important pieces for the Griffins going down the stretch. Fontbonne hits the road again to go take on Bellarmine.
