Playoff Preview Pt.2
MSFL
SMWC v CCSJ
Last Meeting: SMWC win 28-10
Key Players SMWC
Jr QB Jeremiah Tosky- 1730yards 17TD 9int 240rushing yards 6TD
The star quarterback has the chance to wrap what has been a spectacular season. Tosky leads all of sprint football in passing yards and passing touchdowns. Tosky’s level of play has been a key reason for the Pomeroy’s success this season. The ability Tosky has shown to push the ball down the field to his explosive receivers has been invaluable to the offense. With his performance this season Tosky has cemented himself as one of the top 2 or 3 quarterbacks in all of sprint football. Tosky’s name should be frequently mentioned for post season awards and recognition. CCSJ is bringing a tough defense with talent on all three levels but Tosky should be up to the task as the Pomeroy’s go for there second straight title.
Soph RB Patrick Perea 331yards 5 TOTAL TD /Jr RB Keandre Jones 370yards 4 TOTAL /Fr RB Derron Hazzard 319yards 10 TOTAL TD
This trio of running backs make up what may be the best backfield in sprint football. Each has a distinct running style that allows them to fill a different niche on the team. Just when you think you’ve got the advantage on SMWC in the running game one of these backs swaps in and suddenly everything changes. Its hard to predict which one will go off. Last week Fr Derron Hazzard had his number called and was able to produce in a major way. In this championship game any one of these guys could break the run that swings the momentum to the Pomeroy’s side. The running game at SMWC will be great for years to come with these 3 guys carrying the pill.

Fr DL Di’lon Harvey – 37tk 16tfl 6.5sacks
Harvey has quickly become one of the best defensive players in the MSFL. A combination of elite quickness and tenacity make Harvey a weapon for the Pomeroy’s defense. Despite missing some time this season Harvey still leads his team in TFL and sacks. He is also top five in sprint football in both categories. Harvey will be a key player on defense especially since he is going against a run heavy CCSJ team with some good offensive linemen. It will be exciting to see how the stud freshman plays in one of the biggest games of his football career.
Key Players CCSJ
Soph ATH Nino Barbosa -246yards 2TD 3int 151rushing yards 6TD
CCSJ keeps finding ways to win. Despite the passing game struggling at times and having a rough stretch to start the season the Crimson Wave have rallied and now found themselves in the MSFL championship game for the second straight season. Soph ATH Nino Barbosa has been a major contributor on both sides of the ball. His athleticism and playmaking ability have given the Wave the juice they needed heading into the post season. Last week in the matchup with Bellarmine the young athlete was able to take a QB designed run 80 yards to the house despite getting slowed down in the backfield. Even though he has changed positions for the betterment of the team Barbosa should still be a guy that gets post season awards regardless of position. Barbosa has had one of the best seasons I have ever seen for a guy who had to switch positions mid season.

Fr WR Jacob Oehmen 20rec 227yards & Fr WR Stevie Salman 11rec 143yards 3TD
This pair of young receivers have been the unsung heroes this season for the Crimson Wave. Struggles with quarterback play have limited the amount of opportunities that come their way. That being said these two guys have found ways to impact the game and have stayed ready for when their number is called. In the last game for instance both Oehmen and Salman impacted the game. Salman had the best game of his career ending the afternoon with 3rec 88yards 2TD. Oehmen didn’t get many chances in the game but he still made his presence felt. I saw more than half a dozen plays where Oehmen was blocking with intensity and passion. So much so that he put some Knight defensive backs on the ground. These two are the weapons on the outside for CCSJ. There is no telling if they will have monster statistical games but the duo will certainly find ways to have an impact.
Soph DB Quindarius Davis – 23tk 1tfl 6int 4pbu
I can comfortably say that Davis is a top 5 corner in all of sprint football. He can do everything you’d want an elite corner to do. Press man, off coverage, tackling, and shadowing the best guys in the MSFL are all things Davis has done during his two season. He will have the biggest challenge of his career lining up against the explosive Pomeroy’s passing attack. The key matchup will be against Soph WR Devron Johnson who leads all of sprint football in receptions and yards. This will be one of the best WR v DB matchups of the year. Davis may not shadow Johnson the whole time, the Pomeroy’s have other good talent in their receiving room with sophomores Corbyn Cleveland and Carlos Munoz Jr and freshman Calvin Jasey. Wherever and whoever Davis lines up against it will be a fight for every yard. If you enjoy great DB and WR matchups then this is the game for you.
