CSFL
Army v STAC-Army win 49-13
Player of the game: Soph QB Kyle West 340yards 6TD
The Army passing game was firing on all cylinders in this match up with STAC. Soph QB Kyle West continues to have a stellar season in his first year as a starter. West’s 6 TD performance has him tied for the 2nd most passing touchdowns in a game in sprint history. With West at the helm Army will continue to have a good offensive output. Sr WR Scott Belveal had a career night ending the game with 7rec 125yards 2TD. On defense Jr LB Louis Petkus led the team with 10tk. Sr DL George White and Soph DL Thomas Golio combined for 11tk 4tfl 4sacks. Next week Army takes on Caldwell at home.
STAC had some things go their way, but they couldn’t get any positive momentum going. Sr QB Ryan Kenny continues to be the main offensive catalyst for this team. Kenny ended the game with 161yards 1int 1rushing TD. The lack of a running game puts a lot of pressure on Kenny to make plays with his arm and his legs. The leading receiver for the Spartans was Jr Nickolas Simonetta who had 11rec 115yards. Sr Jayden Bennermon who has been a consistent target all year added 2rec 69yards 1TD. Sr LB Esmond Oldums led the team with 7tk 0.5tfl. STAC heads home next week to take on Cornell.
Caldwell v Mansfield-Caldwell win 28-21
Player of the game: Jr WR Ajurn Petgrave 5rec 105yards 3TD
Caldwell played a tough game in all 3 phases to get a win in their home opener. Fr QB Josh Smith had one of the better games of his career. Smith threw for 172yards 3TD. Although Smith was sacked 4 times, he did show off his ability to escape pressure and extend plays. Smith also led the Cougars on the ground with 50 rushing yards. Jr WR Ajurn Petgrave had a game high 5rec 105yards 3TD. Petgrave has been the most consistent offensive threat for the Cougars this season. They will need him to continue to make big plays in the second half of the season. On defense Sr DB Amajuwan Murray had a day finishing with a game high 11tk 2tfl. Caldwell stays home next week for a match up with Army.
Mansfield had a great day on the ground, but the passing game and defense didn’t do enough to get the win. Sr Cahsid Raymond and Fr Marcus Quaker combined for 93yards through the air with no touchdowns. The Mountaineers did see success with their rushing attack. Sr RB Terrance Quaker ran for 114yards 1TD and Fr RB Jameson Ricigilano ran for 100yards. Caldwell did a good job of containing Raymond throughout the game which forced Mansfield to rely on their other play makers. On defense Soph DB Chase Thompson and Fr LB Jackson Taylor had 7 tackles a piece. Fr LB Brady Deneen made his presence felt adding 6tk 3.5tfl 2sacks 1pbu. Mansfield heads home next week to play CHC.
Penn v Cornell-Penn win 41-0
Player of the game: Fr QB Mike Malone 166yards 2TD 1int 47rushing yards.
Penn took advantage of Cornell turnovers and made the most of good field position to overwhelm the Big Red. Fr QB Mike Malone threw for 166yards 2TD 1int and added 47yards on the ground. The Quakers rushing attack proved to be too much for Cornell to handle. Soph RB JT Goodman ran for 74yards 2TD and Sr RB Tom Rebstock added 42yards 2TD. Sr WR Kyle Zeitlan had one of the best games of his career ending the night with 5rec 82yards 1TD. Defensively Sr DL Cam Janock led the team with 9tk 2tfl 1sack 1ff. As a defense the Quakers forced 4 turnovers which helped stop any chance Cornell had at salvaging this game. Penn heads home next week to take on Molloy.
Cornell continues to struggle on both sides of the ball. On offense Jr QB Max Spero threw for 101yards 2int. On the ground Cornell was held to -6 rushing yards. Sr ATH Evan Nicholas has been the only relevant offensive threat for Cornell. He ended the game with 4rec 43yards. Nicholas also added 8tk 1int 1pbu. The other defensive standout was Sr DL Elijah Biddlecom. The senior had a career high 10tk 5tfl 3sacks. Cornell hits the road next week to take on STAC.
Navy v CHC-Navy win 17-10
Player of the game: Sr QB Luke Wagner 91yards 1int 130rushing yards 1TD
Navy found themselves down early in this match up vs CHC. The running game came in clutch to save the day for the Mids. Sr QB Luke Wagner did not have the most impressive day throwing the ball. Wagner only threw for 91yards no touchdowns 1int. However, Wagner had a huge impact in this game on the ground. Wagner had a game and career high 130rushing yards 1TD. On defense Sr LB Jonathan Swift led the team with 9tk 2tfl. The Navy defense did a good job of limiting a potentially explosive CHC passing game. In the end the two interceptions the Navy defense forced were the difference in this win. Navy hits their bye week before they take on Molloy on the road.
CHC kept this game close the whole way but couldn’t get the last plays to go their way to get the win. Jr QB Anthony Cancellare threw for 99yards 2int. Turnovers and missed opportunities gave Navy the chances they needed to get the win. Soph RB Lawrence Howard led the team with 79yards 1TD. The young RB has had a breakout season as the Griffins primary ball carrier. Jr WR Kyree Griffin led the Griffins with 4rec 77yards.On defense Jr DL Jonathan Havrilak led the team with a game high 14tk. Jr LB’s Cam Goldsmith and Lex Williams combined for 17tk 3tfl. CHC hits the road next week to take on Mansfield.
MSFL
SMWC v Bellarmine-SMWC win 54-26
Player of the game: Jr QB Jeremiah Tosky 241yards 3TD 1int 26rushing yards 1TD
SMWC continues to overwhelm their opponents with their explosive offense. Jr QB Jeremiah Tosky threw for 241yards 3TD 1int and he added a rushing touchdown. When Tosky gets rolling like that it’s hard to stop the Pomeroy’s offense. SMWC also has a top tier rushing attack. Soph Derron Hazzard and Sr Keandre Jones combined for 218yards 3TD. Hazzard has been a force in the backfield all season. With Jones as a backfield partner the Pomeroy’s rushing attack is just as dangerous as their passing game. Fr WR Marques Reese led the team with 6rec 158yards 2TD. Defensively Soph LB Josh Wence led the team with 9tk 1.5tfl. On the back-end Jr DB Austin Petrillo held it down ending the game with 6tk 0.5tfl 1fr 2int. SMWC hits the road again next week to play Walsh.
The Knights offense was extremely potent, but the defense couldn’t slow down an impressive Pomeroy offense. Fr QB Kyle Horvath continues to have an all-time great season. Horvath threw for a Knight’s single game record 419yards with 4TD 3int. That is also good for the 3rd most passing yards in a game in sprint history. With Horvath at the helm the Knights passing game will continue to be dangerous. The traditionally strong running game was held in check. Jr RB Brenden Reid only ran for 59yards. Soph WR Shannon Tonge and Soph WR Tyler Smith have really blossomed with Horvath. The pair combined for 8rec 225yards 2TD. On defense Jr LB Caleb Murray led the team with 11tk. Bellarmine hits their bye before they take on Oakland City.
Midway v Quincy-Midway win 19-14
Player of the game: Fr RB Quintel Thomas 117yards 1TD
Midway fought hard to get their first win of the season. Fr QB Tanner Clark threw for 156yards 1TD. The main force in this game and for the last few games has been Fr RB Quintel Thomas. The standout tailback ran for 117yards 1TD. Thomas has been a great addition to the Eagles offense. Whenever they need a spark Thomas finds a way to make something happen. Fr WR Chase Williams led the way through the air with 4rec 80yards 1TD. On defense Jr LB Luke Guerrero led the way with 9tk. Midway hits the road to take on CCSJ.
Quincy had chances to get out of this game with a win. But the Hawks couldn’t take advantage of those opportunities. Soph QB Deuce Allaway threw for 189yards. The ground game for the Hawks was led by Sr RB CJ Jackson who ran for 67yards 1TD. Jr WR Nasir Carson was the top receiver leading the team with 3rec 80yards. Both Jackson and Carson do the heavy lifting for the Hawks offense. As they head into their final games those two will be called upon to have a huge impact. Defensively Soph DL Kyron Dunae and Soph LB Logan Cannady combined for 10tk 1.5tfl. Quincy has their last game of the season vs Oakland City.
CCSJ v Oakland City-CCSJ win 34-0
Player of the game: Soph ATH Zaire Davis 62rushing yards 4rec 73yards 23kr yards(158 all-purpose yards)
CCSJ continues their winning ways with a dominant win over a young Oakland City team. Jr QB Nino Barbosa threw for 149yards 2TD 2int. Barbosa also added a score on the ground. The most dynamic player for the Wave was Soph ATH Zaire Davis. The young play maker had 158 all-purpose yards. Although he didn’t find the endzone Davis’s consistency set up his teams for touchdowns to end drives. On defense Jr LB Trevor Busse led the team with 9tk 1tfl. Jr DB Daymon Johnson had 2tk 1tfl and a 1int returned 32yards for a TD. CCSJ heads home to take on Midway.
Oakland City has shown some flashes of promise, but they are still very much a young team. The Oaks two quarterbacks Darrius Pope and Anias Mitchell were only able to throw for 49yards 1int. Mitchell was also the team’s leading rusher with 33yards on the ground. Soph LB Kanye Johnson led the team with 9tk 1tfl.Soph DL Andrew Brown added 8tk 2tfl 1sack. The Oaks have shown that they do have some players that can impact winning on both sides of the ball. The main goal for the Oaks will be to develop those players and good habits so that the program can take a positive step moving forward. Oakland City gets ready for Quincy next week.
