The Shape of Sprint:LB
The Outside Backer
These are the players that use a combination of versatility and athleticism to stop the run, blitz, and pass rush. They are also able to cover running backs, slot receivers, and tight ends. They are able to quickly identify and react to various types of plays. They are also very affective tacklers in both the pass and run game. These backers are often apart of the foundation of a strong defense
(MSFL) CCSJ (active) LB Trevor Busse 189tk 31tfl 5.5sacks 2int 9pbu
Busse has been a impact player for the Crimson Wave since he first stepped on the field as a freshman. What makes Busse special is his knack for always being around the ball. Whether its reading the quarterback’s eyes to bat down a pass, shedding a block to go make a devastating tackle, snagging a interception in coverage, or making a play behind the line of scrimmage. Busse is always around the ball doing good things for his defense. With one year left Busse is already a all time great linebacker in sprint football.
(CSFL) Caldwell 17-20 LB Royce Francisco 133tk 28tfl 7sacks 2pbu
Francisco was a main cog in the Cougars defense during the early years of their program. The explosive backer mad a name for himself by becoming a devastating blitzer known for not shying away from contact. Francisco frequently made plays where he had run through a blocker before getting to the ball carrier or quarterback. Anytime you turned on a Caldwell game you were in for a big hit from Francisco at some point. The tough outside backer helped usher in a new era for the Cougars.
(MSFL) Quincy 22-23 LB Ray Lingard 123tk 24tfl 6.5sacks 1int 11pbu
Lingard had a monstrous two years playing in the MSFL. The stud outside backer was lighting quick and had great instincts. It did not matter if it was in the pass game, stopping the run, or rushing the quarterback. Lingard was able to make spectacular plays again and again for the Hawks. The standout football player was also able to take his talents to the lacrosse team where he dominated as a face-off specialist. Despite only playing two seasons before moving on to play lacrosse at another school Lingard left an incredible mark in the MSFL.
