The Shape of Sprint:RB
Weapon X
These guys are in a category all their own. What is so unique about this type of player is the versatility that they bring to their team. They can be the primary ball carrier in the running game, catch passes out of the backfield, line up in the slot or outside as a traditional receiver, and be dangerous in the return game. Their careers may look different and the ways that their teams use them can vary game to game or week to week. The thing that they all have in common is utility. Line these guys up anywhere and watch the magic happen.
(CSFL) Caldwell 17-21 RB/WR Carl Watson 1171rushing yards 14TD 76rec 1007receiving yards 7TD
Watson is one of the most electrifying and unique players to ever play sprint football. He combined elite top end speed with unmatched suddenness and quickness. Watson is so unique that even among the most unique guys in the history of the game he is in a class all his own. Watson is the only player in sprint football history to have 1000 rushing yards and 1000 receiving yards in his career. It can not be understated how incredible of a feat this is. Watson will go down as one of the best players to ever play the game and he will one day find himself in the Hall of Fame.
(CSFL) CHC 15-18 RB/WR Raevon Floyd-Bennett 767rushing yards 6TD 37rec 489receiving yards 4TD 777kick return yards 243punt return yards 2TD
Floyd-Bennett may be the smallest player written about in this series. In fact he may be one of the smallest players in sprint football history. Despite his small stature Floyd-Bennett had one of the most successful careers in the history of the game. His speed, shiftiness, and drive made him a potent offensive player. Floyd-Bennett made a career of making early defenders miss and running by everyone else. This extended to the return game as well where he was one of the best returners we have ever seen in sprint football. Floyd-Bennett is the perfect example of the phrase, “its not the size of the dog in the fight its the size of the fight in the dog”.
(CSFL) Mansfield 19,21-24 RB/WR Terrance Quaker 1132rushing yards 11TD 32rec 497receiving yards 6TD 649kick return yards 1TD
Quaker just wrapped up his career as one of the best running backs to ever play for Mansfield. The speedy ball carrier was a main focal point for the Mansfield offense during his career. He used his track speed to flash by defenders on his way to the endzone. Quaker also ran with a toughness that made him hard to tackle. Quaker caught plenty of passes out of the backfield but he was also very effective when lined up as a receiver. Like many other players that fit this mold he was also useful in the return game. The Mountaineers will miss Quaker’s presence but his legacy will live on long after he leaves campus.
