The Shape of Sprint:WR

The Elusive Playmaker

These guys might not be the biggest in the game but that doesn’t stop them from being lethal playmakers. These receivers use their quickness, burst, and shiftiness to get in and out of their breaks and carve up defenses for yards after the catch. They have a natural ability to outmaneuver defenders and create separation down field. These receivers are capable off taking the top off the defense using the speed to blow by defenders. This type of player make their presence felt despite their shorter stature or lighter frame.

(CSFL) CHC (active) Kyree Griffin 59rec 812yards 8TD

Griffin has been the top pass catcher for Chestnut Hill for the last few seasons. What he lacks in height he makes up in skill and heart. Its not uncommon for Griffin to swiftly evade defenders to gain yards after the catch. Griffin also has a knack for making tough catches in traffic between defenders. His tough hands have been an invaluable asset to CHC during his tenure. With one season remaining Griffin has a chance to join some legendary names as the best receivers to ever play for Chestnut Hill.

(CSFL) Penn 15-18 Aiden Kelly 73rec 1430yards 9TD

Kelly made a career of torching defenses despite his misleading appearance. The former Quaker played with a very thin and lean frame. Before playing his Penn teams you would never guess that he was one of the best receivers in his era while playing in the CSFL. Kelly was a fantastic route runner. He was extremely quick and was very disciplined with his routes. Kelly was always where he needed to be when his quarterback released the ball. His sure hands were the last attribute that made Kelly a great receiver. Kelly laid the ground work for the Penn receivers that followed him in the modern era.

(MSFL) Bellarmine (active) Tyler Smith 61rec 746yards 9TD

Smith is another example of a receiver maximizing his skill set. Smith will never be the biggest or tallest receiver in the game but that does not stop him from being one of the Knight’s best players. Smith runs sharp routes with no wasted movement. He pairs that with his deceptive speed and suddenness. Smith can run right by defenders if they aren’t in good position. Smith also has top tier hands. he catches almost everything that comes his way. With two years remaining Smith will be all over the Bellarmine receiving record book.

(CSFL) Penn 18-21 Brendan McCaffrey 57rec 1208yards 10TD

McCaffrey took the torch that Aiden Kelly passed him and ran with it. The dynamic receiver left the game as one of the best deep threat receiver we have ever seen in sprint football. Every time you tuned into a Penn game while McCaffrey was on the on the field it was only a matter of time until you saw an explosive play. McCaffrey was at his best when he was getting down field putting pressure on the secondary. He would use his speed to blow by defenders and if a defensive back happened to be able to make a play on the ball McCaffrey would use his great hands to make a spectacular catch. McCaffrey left the game as one of the best receivers to ever play for Penn.
