Week 2 Review
CSFL
Army v Chestnut Hill: Army win 27-21
Player of the game- Jr RB JP Ross 107 all-purpose yards 2TD
Army started their season on the road visiting the Griffins in Philadelphia. It was a tight game throughout the night with the Black Knights narrowly escaping with the victory. Jr QB Kyle West threw for 140yards 1TD 1int. The main offensive force for Army was Jr RB JP Ross who had a game and career high 99 rushing yards 1TD. He also added 1 receiving TD for 8 yards. His 107all purpose yard 2TD game is the best game Ross has had in his career. On the outside Jr WR Parker Williams led the way with 7rec 61yards. On defense the guys upfront won the night. The Army defense was able to hold one of the nation’s leading rushers last season to just 22yards on the night. Jr DL Cameron Allen had a career game finishing with 7tk 2tfl 1sack. Army heads into their bye before their next game against Molloy.
CHC was a play or two away from winning this tightly contested contest. Sr QB Anthony Cancellare played stood tough all night as he lit up the Army defense. The senior signal caller ended the night with 331yards 1TD. This was the 2nd 300+ passing game of his career. While the Griffins had things rolling with the pass they couldn’t get much going on the ground. Star RB Lawrence Howard only had 22yards to lead the team. Cancellare was able to punch in 1 rushing TD along with Soph WR Winday Dawson. On the outside Sr WR Kyree Griffin had a career night and one of the greatest games for a receiver in sprint football history. The star senior ended the night with 6rec 189yards. Griffin pulled down tough receptions all night, one in particular where he barely had a step on good coverage but still somehow came down with the ball. Griffin’s 189yard performance is good for the 9th most receiving yards in a game in sprint football history and sets the record for the most receiving yards in a game in CHC history eclipsing standout WR Reggie Robinson’s record of 173yards. On defense Jr DB Amir Jenkins led the way with a game high 11tk. Soph LB Riley Stidham added 5tk 1tfl 1sack. CHC hits the road next week to take on Caldwell.
Caldwell v Penn: Caldwell win 29-17
Player of the game: Fr DL Trever Stevenson 15tk 5.5tfl 2.5sacks
Caldwell used a mix of timely explosive offensive plays and some incredible individual defensive efforts to take this game from the Quakers. On offense Soph QB Josh Smith and Sr QB Jameil Lawrence both led scoring drives for the Cougars. The pair combined for 153yards 2TD with 3int. Smith also led the team on the ground with a game with 67yards. Sr RB Curt Mcdougald added 50yards with 1TD. Sr WR Ajurn Petgrave led the team on the outside with 5rec 64yards 1TD. Fr DL Trever Stevenson had an absolute all-time great game finishing with a game high 15tk 5.5tfl 2.5sacks. Stevenson’s 15 tackles tie him for the 7th most in a game in sprint football history and his 5.5tfl’s are good for the 4th most in a game in sprint football history. This performance is one of the best I have ever seen from a defender in my 10 years of being around sprint football. Soph LB Daimen Tarves made an impact everywhere finishing with 8tk 1.5tfl 0.5sack 2pbu. The secondary blanketed the Quakers all night. Soph DB Anthony Cummings had 3tk 1int 1pbu and Jr DB JJ Hinnat added 1tk 3pbu. The Cougars head home to welcome CHC next week.
Penn was able to capitalize on some Caldwell mistakes, but they did not have enough to come out with the win. Sr QB Jaxson Neild got the first start of his career ending the night with a decent performance leading the team with 144yards 2TD 1int .He will need more help from his offensive line and receivers as the season goes on if the Quakers hope to make some noise. The performance upfront has to concern the Quakers as Neild was sacked 5 times and lead RB JT Goodman only ran for 41yards on 20 touches (2.2 YPC). On the outside Soph TE Andrew Piscatelli had a game high 59yards with 2rec 1TD. Defensively is where the Quakers really made this a game. Soph LB Colin Cross and Fr LB Hugh Maley both had big games with each finishing with 10tk a piece. Maley also showed out by grabbing 2 interceptions. Jr DB Josh Johnson looks like he has transitioned to safety this year. He made it hard for the Cougars to go deep and finished the game with 1tk 1int 1pbu. The Quakers hit the road next week for a clash with Mansfield.
Navy v Cornell:Navy win 40-7
Player of the game- JR QB Luke O’Connell 209yards 2TD 48rushing yards 1TD
Navy jumped out to an early lead and never slowed down. This game served as the starting debut for some players who will be crucial to Navy’s success this season. Jr QB Luke O’Connell is one if these players. The first-time starter threw for 209yards 2TD. O’Connell opened the game up with a deep shot and stayed consistent for the rest of the day. He also added 48yards 1TD on the ground. Jr RB Hunter Gennicks followed up with 45yards 2TD on the ground. On the outside newcomer Sr WR Grant Sterchi had a big debut ending the day with a game high 145yards on 2receptions with 2TD. The O’Connell-Sterchi connection could be a lethal pairing for defenses in the CSFL if the two can build off of this opening week performance. On the defensive side of the ball the Mids never took their foot off the gas. The unit forced 5 turnover which stopped Cornell from building any momentum. Soph LB Connor Miltenberger led the way with 11tk 2.5tfl 0.5sack 1ff. Jr LB Sam Stotler was right behind adding 8tk 2tfl 1ff. Soph DB Owen Erker was a ball hawk in the backend finishing the day with 1tk 2int. Navy stays on the road next week as they visit STAC.
The new look Cornell squad had their hands full from the start of the game. Jr QB Stefano Luis made his debut finishing with 158yards 1TD 2int. While Luis did have a good completion percentage none of the plays were impactful enough to threaten the outcome of the game. Sr RB Anthony Rambino led the way on the ground leading the team with 41yards. Fr TE Cooper Patterson was the leading receiver in his debut. The young TE led the team with 3rec 58yards 1TD. Cornell will need to cut down on the turnovers if they hope to have a productive offense this year. The Big Red offense committed 5 turnovers in the game. On defense Fr DB Carter Aime led the team with 8tk. Cornell hits the road next week to play Molloy.
STAC v Molloy:STAC win 14-13
Player of the game- Sr DB Ethan Hence 9tk 2pbu
STAC leaned on their experience as a program to secure this tightly contested victory. Soph QB Tynez Harp went 7-8 for 64yards 1TD. This wasn’t the most prolific passing day but it was enough to get the job done. The Spartans used a team effort to generate yards on the ground. Harp led the way with 31yards and Soph Aron Cruz added 30yards with 1TD. Cruz’s rushing touchdown gave the Spartans the lead and the defense took care of the rest. On the outside Soph WR Eric Neal Jr had a game high 4rec 45yards 1TD. Defensively the Spartans did just enough to overcome a young upstart Molloy team. A 2pt conversion stop proved to be the difference in this one.Sr DB Ethan Hence led the way with a game high 9tk 2pbu. Jr LB Brandon Jimenez followed up with 8tk. STAC stays home again to welcome Navy.
Molloy gave a more experienced STAC team al they could handle. Jr QB Paulie Drummond threw for 50yards 1TD. He will need to be more accurate moving forward, the second-year starter only went 5-14 throwing the ball. The Lions had much more success on the ground. Soph RB Marquis Dixon led the team with a game high 72yards. Fr RB Ryan Downes with 60yards in his college debut. Sr Peter von Schoenermarck was the lone produce in the passing game leading the team with 2rec 35yards 1TD. As one of the few older players on this Molloy roster Schoenermarck will need to have bigger games if the Lions hope to compete against the stronger teams. On defense Fr DB Ayden Das led the team with 7tk 2tfl 1fr. Molloy heads home next week to take on Cornell.
MSFL

SMWC stayed steady even as Quincy started to claw their way back into things. The offense was led by star Sr QB Jeremiah Tosky. He threw for 250yards 2TD 2int. He also added 41yards on the ground. Tosky continues to drive this Pomeroy’s offense and show just how potent they can be. Fr RB Zy’Eiar White was the primary rusher for the Pomeroys. White led the team with 57yards 3TD. The top performers on the outside were Sr WR Corbyn Cleveland and Soph WR Owen Huff. Cleveland had 6rec 97yards 1TD and Huff followed up with 3rec 79yards 1TD. The pair are off to a hot start to begin the year. On defense the Pomeroy’s gave up some big plays in the 2nd half but never allowed the Hawks to overcome the big deficit. Fr DB Byran Simmions, Jr LB Holtman Doades, and Jr LB Joshua Wence had 6tk each. Fr DB Elijah Connor had 2tk 1pbu and he ended the game with a 42yard interception return touchdown. Quincy fought hard to get themselves out of the hole that they were in early, but they could never get over that last hump. Fr QB Keit Truong had an impressive debut throwing for 204yards 4TD 1int. The freshman made the most of his opportunity and showed that he may be the answer the Hawks have been looking for at quarterback. Sr RB CJ Jackson ran hard all night despite the swarming SMWC defense. He led the team with 62yards. Jr WR Gregory Quince had the best game of his career leading the team with 5rec 74yards 3TD. Defensively the Hawks did create some turnovers, but it wasn’t enough to stop the bleeding. Sr LB Donnell Packer had a game high 10tk with 1tfl 1pbu. Jr DL Logan Cannady made his presence felt upfront finishing with 7tk 2.5tfl 1sack 1ff. Quincy hits the road next week to take on Midway.
Midway v Bellarmine: Midway win 50-0
Player of the game-Soph QB Christian Carter 253yards 3TD 13rushing yards 1TD
Midway dominated from the opening kickoff never allowing Bellarmine to find their rhythm in this game. Soph QB Christian Carter continues his hot start to the season finishing this one with a game high 253yards 3TD. Carter spread the ball around throwing touchdowns to three different receivers in the game. The young QB is off to a great start to the season and has put the MSFL on notice. Freshmen backs Demari Edelen and Deondre Henry combined for 64yards 1TD on the ground. The passing attack continues to be the Eagles bread & butter. Soph WR Ayden Bauwens had another spectacular performance ending the game with 5rec 100yards. Right behind him was his running mate Fr WR Quincy Barber who had 2rec 81yards 1TD. The pair are off to a blazing start to the season. This Midway passing game will be a force to be reckoned with this season. The Eagle’s defense had something to say as well. Fr DL Tristian Euell had a day leading the team with 11tk 3tfl 2sacks 1int. Euell was all over the field making plays all day. Fr LB Robert Thompson also made his presence felt adding 7tk 3tfl 1sack 1ff. The Eagles defense forced 7 turnovers which helped them maintain their commanding lead. Midway hits the road next week to take on Quincy.
Bellarmine had no answers on either side of the ball in this one. Fr Dylan Morris could not replicate his week 1 performance. Today the young QB threw for 46yards 3int. Star Sr RB Brenden Reid did what he could on the ground. The senior ran for a game high 81yards.A big 35 yards run from Reid was one of the Knights few explosive plays in the game. Jr WR Tyler Smith didn’t fare much better finishing with 3rec 50yards. The Knights will need big games out of those two as the offense tries to bounce back next week. The defense did do any better for Bellarmine. Sr DB Gavin Brazzell led the way with 9tk 1tfl 1sack. Fr DB Da’coldus Feilds provided the only spark in the secondary finishing with 2tk 1int 1pbu. The Knights stay home to welcome CCSJ next week.
CCSJ v Oakland City:CCSJ win 57-7
Player of the game: Sr ATH Nino Barbosa 3rec 104yards 2TD 48kr yards
CCSJ absolutely suffocated Oakland City as soon as the game started. Jr QB Destry Peoples had an efficient game throwing for 121yards 2TD. Soph QB Zayne Guthrie came in as things got out of hand and did miss a beat completing 2 passes for 48yards 1TD. Jr RB Kaydarious Jones led the team with 70yards on the ground. Jr RB Jamal Warnell got work in the redzone and ended the game with 39yards 2TD. Sr ATH Nino Barbosa got things going right away with a big 43yard touchdown. He ended the night with 3rec 104yards 2TD. Defensively the entire CCSJ unit was at a level that completely overwhelmed the Oaks offense. For much of the 1st quarter Oakland City was held to negative total yardage. No player had spectacular stats and the end of the game but that is because the defense was so dominant the Oaks could barely complete plays or generate yards. Sr DB Daymon Johnson did ignite the crowd with a 47yard interception returned for a touchdown. CCSJ hits the road next week to take on Bellarmine.
There wasn’t much Oakland City could do to slow down CCSJ in any area of the game. Soph QB Dylan Grant started the game, but he could not find any consistency only throwing for 1total yard with 1int. Fr QB Braeden Ellis looked better but still couldn’t do anything finishing with 50yards 1int. Jr RB Robert Lamar barely scraped together 5yards with 1TD. Fr WR Daveon Gilmore’s 50 yard reception was the lone offensive spark for the Oaks in the game. Fr LB Gabriel Anyamene Jr did what he could finishing with 7tk 4tfl 1sack. Oakland City heads home to take on SMWC.
