Week 3 Review
Alderson Broaddus v STAC: 37-0 STAC WIN
Player of the Game: Sr DL Tyreke Smith-16tackles 7TFL 3.5sacks
STAC came away from this game with their first win of the season. A well-balanced team attack proved to be more than AB could handle. The Spartans used a stable of running backs to generate 122 yards on the ground. Fr QB Dennis Riordan had a very efficient afternoon finishing with 183yards 4TD. The young QB bounced back from his multiple int game last week. Jr WR Mahki Matthews was the leading receiver on the day finishing with 3rec 74yards 1TD. Fr WR Hassan Blakney also chipped in 45yards. The two young receivers continue to be the catalysts for the STAC offense. The defense had maybe their most impressive game in program history pitching their first ever shutout. As a group they held AB to -42rushing yards and registered 11 sacks. Sr DE Tyreke Smith had a monster afternoon finishing with 16tackles 7TFL 3.5sacks 1FF. His 16tackles ties him for the 5th most in CSFL history and his 7TFL ties him for the most in CSFL history. An historic afternoon for the star senior. Fr Safety Ryan Kenny and Soph LB Christopher Jones combined for 15tackles 2TFL. STAC stays home for the 2nd straight week as the welcome Mansfield to NY.
AB struggled to generate any type of offense. The Battlers were held scoreless for the second week in a row. Fr RB Willie Hooper ran hard and did finish with 74yards, but the team total was a lackluster -42 total. Jr QB Timmy Tillman continues to show that he is a talented QB finishing with 169yards. The issue thus far for AB has been the offensive line. As a group they gave up 11sacks, 9 of which were on starting QB Timmy Tillman. Improvement up front is a must if AB hopes to salvage the season. Bad special teams snaps plagued AB and consistently gave STAC good field position. Defensively AB could not stop the Spartans passing attack. Fr DB Braden Knop led the way as one of the lone bright spots with 6 tackles and 2pbu.AB heads back home to welcome Navy to WV.
Mansfield v CHC: 31-14 MU WIN
Player of the Game: Cahsid Raymond 150yards 2TD 124rushing yards 1TD
Mansfield hit the road for the first time this season and did not disappoint. Another strong outing from Fr QB Cahsid Raymond propelled MU to the win. Raymond finished with 150 passing yards & 124 rushing yards while accounting for 3 scores. An electrifying 65yard run to start the 3rd quarter was the best run I have personally seen in my 7 years being involved in Sprint Football. A strong performance from the offensive line gave Raymond enough time to find multiple receivers. The Mounites had 7 players catch at least one pass. Defensively Mansfield put on a show finishing the night with 4 interceptions. Sr Safety Kayin Berger led the way with 2int while also showing his versatility chipping in with 6tackles 1TFL 1sack. Jr LB Kade Showers led the way for Mansfield up from with 11tackles 2TFL. Mansfield hits the road again for the second week in a row as the head the New York to play STAC.
Chestnut Hill drops their 2nd straight game. A change at quarterback did not bode well for CHC. Fr Connor Rohrbach finished the night with 169yards and 2rushing TD, but he threw 4int. The young QB struggled in his first start of the year. Fr RB Ira Baine showed some promise as he led the griffins in rushing finishing with 77 rushing yards. Fr RB Anthony Broderick added 40 rushing yards which helped CHC finish with 114 rushing yards as a team. Fr WR Branden Moye led the Griffins in receiving yards with 71yards on 6rec. On the other side of the ball Jr LB Luke Attanasi and Jr DB Ryan Jakeman combined for 18tackles 1TFL 1sack.CHC hits the road next week to visit Caldwell in New Jersey.
Cornell v Caldwell: 32-12 CALDWELL WIN
Player of the Game: Jr QB Frank DeMaio 181yards 1TD 66rushing yards
The Cougars traveled to Ithica and came away with their first win against Cornell in program history. Jr QB Frank DeMaio continues to be a pace setter finishing with 181yards 1 TD 66rushing yards. A balanced rushing attack accumulated 213yards on the ground for Caldwell. Jr WR Jeremy Colon was the leading receiver finishing the night with 3rec 84yards. Sr LB Anthony Guarino finished with 10tackles and Jr DL Michael Lohrmann dominated up front finishing with 7tackles 4.5TFL 1sack. Lohrmann had what may be the best game of his career thus far. Caldwell heads back home next week for a matchup against Chestnut Hill.
The Cornell passing attack showed some signs of life this weekend. Jr QB Xavier Martinez threw for a career high 231yards 2TD. With a nonexistent rushing attack, -20 yards rushing as a team, Cornell quickly became one dimensional. Fr Evan Nicholas is continuing to be Cornell’s most lethal weapon. The converted QB finished with 12rushing yards 5rec 104receving yards 2TD. This was Nicholas’s first 100 yard game and first touchdowns of his college career. Defensively Cornell was led be Sr LB Matt Peck who had 11tackles. Jr DB Nate Roy also had his best game of the season contributing 8tackles 2.5TFL. Cornell heads down to Philadelphia next week to take on Penn.
Army v Navy: 14-6 NAVY WIN
Player of the Game: Jr LB Paul Kuehler 8tackles 3TFL 1.5sacks
Navy came out on top in the tight defensive battle. Soph QB Brandon Atwood continues to lead this Navy offense finishing with 128yards 1TD. Despite the 2 interceptions Atwood has shown that he is the most accurate passer to play the QB position at Navy in quite some time. It was a long day for Sr RB Matthew McGee. The star running back was held to 50 yards, but he did score his lone TD in the 4th quarter to help seal the game. Jr TE Jake Smith was the leading receiver on the night finishing with 5rec 62yards. The Navy defense was without a doubt the reason for the win. They held Army to -10 rushing yards and finished with 8sacks. Jr LB Paul Kuehler led the way with 8 tackles 3TFL 1.5sacks. Right behind him was Sr LB Mike Garnett who held down the middle with 7tackles 1TFL 1sack. Navy hits the road again next week to visit Alderson Broaddus.
The Army offense had pressure coming their way the entire game. Despite giving up 8 sacks, Sr QB JC Watson still produced finishing with 198yards. With the running game being shut down the pressure was on Watson to throw for a majority of the game. Sr WR Kraig Hamilton was the most impactful receiver on the night finishing with 5rec 72 yards. The Army defense did its job holding one of the leading rushers in the CSFL to 50yards. Soph LB Luke Gigliotti and David Dickerson had 14tackles a piece with 3TFL between the two of them. Both Dickerson and Gigliotti continue to dominate and prove that they are two of the better backers in the league. Army gets a break next week before they head to Mansfield for a CSFL North Matchup.
