Week 3 Review

CSFL

Penn vs STAC:Penn win 34-26

Player of the game-Fr RB Dante Coury 182yards 4TD

Penn overcame a quick STAC start and halftime deficit to get their first win of the season. Fr QB John Franchini threw for 99yards 1TD. The hero for the Quakers was Fr RB Dante Coury who ran for a career high 182yards 4TD. Coury got the tough yards when needed but also broke some big runs that broke the STAC defense. His 4TD performance also ties him with a handful of other names for the 2nd most rushing touchdowns in the history of the game. Penn may have found their go to offensive player after this performance by Coury. Jr WR Jason Sheairs led the team through the air with 2rec 51yards 1TD. On defense the Quakers gave up a lot of big plays be they did just enough to win the game. Soph DB Charlie Almedia led the team with 4tk. Sr DL Jack Kim and Fr Alex Diffley had a nice day up front. The pair combined for 4tk 4tfl 3sacks. Penn heads home to take on Army.

STAC started off the game with a huge offense explosion, but the Spartans could not finish and win the game. Jr QB Demani Jones Allen and Sr Jake Kear both had time at the helm. The pair combined for 94yards 2TD. The driver of the bus for the Spartans was Fr WR/RB Trevon Washington. The explosive young sparkplug ran for 168yards 2TD. He opened up the game with a huge 70yard run on the first play of the game. Washington will surely be the focal point of the Spartans offense as the season goes on. Soph TE Damian Aviles led the team in receiving with 1rec 65yards 1TD. On defense Sr DB Prince Alvarado and Sr LB Brandon Jimenez led the team with 9tk a piece. The STAC secondary kept the Penn passing game bottled up besides the one big play but struggled with stopping the run. STAC hits the road next week to take on Molloy.

Army v Navy:Army win 21-12

Player of the game-Sr QB Kyle West 182yards 1TD 1rushing TD

Army used an efficient passing game, tough running game, stout defense, and momentum swinging special teams plays to secure victory against their rival Navy. Sr QB Kyle West threw for 182yards 1TD and also added 1rushing TD. West’s sharp passing kept the chains moving which made it tough for the Navy defense to get off the field. Sr RB JP Ross led the team on the ground with 63yards 1TD. Army’s concerted effort the establish the run was very effective and was key factor in helping Army get the win. Jr WR Carson McFadden led the team with 9rec 84yards while Soph WR Mark Arbogast added 6rec 67yards 1TD. On defense the Black Knights did a great job keeping the Navy running game in check. Soph LB Aidan Lessard and Sr LB Jake Oxendine combined for 16tk. Soph DB Otto Leone finished with 2tk 2pbu and block two kicks that helped keep Navy from building any momentum. Army hits the road again to take on Penn.

Navy struggled getting their offense going how they wanted in this game against their rival. Sr QB Luke O’Connell threw for 208yards 2TD. The two touchdowns came late in the fourth quarter when the game was out of reach. Navy Sr RB Hunter Gennicks was bottled up only rushing for 38yards. Navy Jr Ibe Benson led the team through the air with 6rec 68yards 1TD. Jr WR Biamungu Nkere added 5rec 39yards 1TD. On defense Navy was led by Sr LB Tucker Opdahl who had a game high 12tk. Sr LB Sam Stotler and Fr LB Eli Trahan added 11tk a piece. Sr DL Mick Tabor made his presence felt in the middle finishing with 5tk 2.5tfl 2.5sacks. Navy hits the road for the first time this season to take on CHC.

Mansfield vs Molloy: Mansfield win 34-7

Player of the game-Soph QB Joseph Frye 194yards 2TD 1int

After a scoreless first quarter Mansfield got things rolling and never looked back. Soph QB Jospeh Frye continues his strong start to the season leading the team with a game high 194yards 2TD 1int. Frye also continues to contribute to the running game adding 30yards on the ground. Sr RB Weston Bellows ran for 86yards 1TD. The Frye/Bellows backfield may be the most dangerous in the CSFL. Sr WR Jerry Holmes led the way on the outside with 3rec 80yards 1TD. Defensively were led by their stud LB Jackson Taylor. Taylor finished with a game high 10tk. Soph DB Matt Machmer has also emerged as one of Mansfield’s top defensive players. Machmer finished with 4tk 0.5tfl 1int 1pbu. Mansfield hits the road next to take on Caldwell.

Molloy struggled to get things going on both sides of the ball. The Lions are without their opening day starting QB Paulie Drummond who went down with an injury. To replace him Molloy used Soph Anthony Caliendo and Jr QB Mark Kiss. The pair threw for 97yards 2int. The lone touchdown was thrown by Gr WR Peter von Schoenermarck. The standout receiver also led the team with 3rec 66yards. The Lions will be leaning on Schoenermarck more than ever with struggles at the quarterback position. The running game for Molloy never got going with the Lions only rushing for 59yards as a team. On defense the lions were led by Jr LB Jojo Spano with 8tk 1int. Jr LB Marquis Dixon added 8tk 1tfl. Molloy heads home to take on STAC.

Caldwell vs D’Youville:Caldwell win 29-19

Player of the game- Soph LB Hector Lopez 9tk 2.5tfl 1sack 1ff

Caldwell’s experience on both sides of the ball was the difference in this game. Jr QB Cael Zebrowski threw for 128yards 2TD 1int. Jr ATH Josh Smith also had some time running the show. He added 63yards 1TD. The Cougars struggled to produce anything on the ground only rushing for 11yards as a team. The passing attack was enough to secure the win despite that lack of production on the ground. Jr WR Joey Ciccotelli led the receiving core with 6rec 78yards 1TD. Jr ATH Josh Smith added 7rec 59yards 1TD and Gr WR Ajurn Petgrave added 2rec 57yards. On defense the Cougars made big plays throughout the game. Soph LB Hector Lopez had a big day leading the team with 9tk 2.5tfl 1sack 1ff. Lopez also took a blocked kick back for a 97yard TD. Jr LB Dean Fiore added 7tk 1tfl 1int 1pbu. Fr DL Christian Brewton led the way up front with 6tk 2.5tfl 1int 2pbu. Caldwell heads home to take on Mansfield next week.

D’Youville continues to show promise as they fight to get their first win as a program. Fr QB Cooper Bange had the best game of his young career throwing for 217yards 2TD 1int. Fr RB Nolan Ball led the team in rushing with 55yards on the ground. Fr RB Chris Young was only able to add 21rushing yards, but he did score the lone touchdown on the ground. Fr WR Drevieon Scott-Harris led the receiving core with 3rec 64yards. Fr WR Jayvon Johnson followed up with 3rec 51yards 1TD. Defensively Fr DB Raynard Bullock and Fr DL Taiveyon Jones combined for 12tk 2tfl 0.5sack. Fr DB Duane Hawkins was flying around in the secondary ending the game with 2tk 1int 2pbu. D’Youville hits the road next week to visit Cornell as both teams clash to get their first win of the season.

CHC vs Cornell:CHC win 16-7

Player of the game-Jr RB Xavier Limehouse 110yards 1TD

CHC used their punishing ground game and timely defensive plays to hold off an upstart Cornell team. Fr QB Griffin Walter threw for 130yards 1TD 1int. Walter showed that he is able to escape pressure and make plays as he evaded the Cornell pass rush all night. Jr RB Xaiver Limehouse led the way for the Griffins on the ground. Limehouse had a game high 110yards 1TD. Limehouse’s performance was a historic one for the Griffins as he became the all-time leader in rushing yards. Soph WR Ronnell Wheeler led the way on the outside with 1rec 42yards. On defense the Griffins were led by Sr DB Amir Jenkins who had a team high 9tk 2tfl 1pbu. Sr DB Andre Cancellare made plays in the secondary ending the night with 1int 2pbu. CHC stays home again to welcome Navy next week.

Cornell was able to show some promise of the defensive side of the ball but continue to struggle offensively. Fr QB Beck Berry threw for 66yards 1TD 2int. The young QB was only able to complete 9 passes on his 23 attempts. The running game was not able to muster much for Cornell with 7 players combining for 52yards. Soph WR Kyle Melkonian led the team with 3rec 34yards. On the defensive side of the ball Sr DB Dan O’Malley led the team with 9tk 2tfl. Fr DB Aaron Gilbert added 4tk 1tfl 1sack. Cornell heads home to welcome D’Youville next week as both teams look to get their first win of the season.

MSFL

CCSJ vs Bellarmine:CCSJ win 16-15

Player of the game- Jr RB Zaire Davis 240yards 2TD

A dynamic running game and a clutch FG helped CCSJ escape this close game with the win. The Crimson Wave quarterbacks did not have their best day. Fr DJ Bowles and Soph Zayne Guthrie combined for 84yards 4int. Normally that would be a recipe for disaster but luckily someone answered the call and stepped up on offense. That someone was Jr RB Zaire Davis. Davis ran for a career high 240yards 2TD. His 240yards are the 12th most in a game in sprint football history. Davis saved that day for the Crimson Wave offensively. The leading receiver for CCSJ was Sr WR Kaydarious Jones with 3rec 43yards. On defense Fr DL Reggie Miller continues to impress leading the team with 6tk 3tfl 2sacks. Soph LB CJ Wright followed up with 3tk 2tfl 1sack. The game was won on the leg of Jr K Jeau Vinatieri who nailed a 17yard FG at the buzzer to win the game. CCSJ will face Quincy for the 2nd time this season after the MSFL bye week.

Bellarmine was in the game until the very end. Ultimately CCSJ made a few more plays that proved to be the difference. Jr QB Kyle Horvath threw for 167yards 2TD 1int. Horath did have some yardage and touchdown production but did not have an efficient day passing only completed 9 out of 21 passes. The Knight’s running game was nonexistent with Bellarmine rushing for 4 yards as a team. Sr WR Tyler Smith and Soph TE Aiden Bratcher combined for 6rec 118yards 1TD. Defensively is where the Knights really shined. Soph LB Derek White led the team with 12tk 1tfl. Fr DB Zion Strozier had a great day on the back-end finishing with 4tk 2int 2pbu. Bellarmine will face Midway again after the MSFL bye.

Midway vs Quincy: Midway win 65-14

Player of the game- Jr QB Christian Carter 317yards 3TD & Sr DB Keegan Hill 3tk 4int 4pbu (2 int return TD)

Midway jumped out to an early lead and never looked back. The Eagles offense got going with Jr QB Christian Carter. The star QB threw for 317yards 3TD with plenty of impressive throws. Fr RB Leoandre Martin and Fr RB Ashton Williams combined for 86yards 1TD. The ground game was good for the Eagles but with the passing game rolling the way it was Midway primarily kept the ball in the air. Soph WR Quincy Barber was the leading receiver with 2rec 109yards 2TD. Jr WY Ayden Bauwens added 3rec 87yards. On defense the Eagles had a record setting day. Sr LB Byron Wallace led the way with 11tk 1tfl 0.5sack Soph LB Trenton Everett had 9tk 3tfl 1int. Jr DL Trenton Leach added 9tk 2tfl 1.5sacks. Perhaps the biggest star of the day was Sr DB Keegan Hill who finished the game with 3tk 4pbu and a whopping 4int. Game records for interceptions were hard to collect so I do not have an official list but I can safely say that his is one of the greatest defensive performances ever. Midway hits the bye before they take on Bellarmine.

Quincy was able to keep the game manageable in the 1st quarter, but things quickly spiraled. 4 quarterbacks saw some action for the Hawks and all 4 had a tough time. The group threw for 178yards 7int. Jr RB Drew Paben led the way on the ground finishing with a team high 58yards. Sr WR Evan Lopez and Sr WR Nasir Carson led the air attack combining for 6rec 111yards. Gr LB Donnell Packer led the defense with 7tk. The tough and resilient Quincy squad was not able to match the potent Midway team in this midseason matchup. Quincy hits the bye before they take on CCSJ.
